The EMIS Audit

1 Introduction
Efficienc y NB has created the Industrial Program to assist eligible New Brunswick
Industrial organizations to improve their competitiveness, productivity and environmental
performance through the implementation of both capital and operating energy efficienc y
improvements projects. One stream looks at Energy Management Information Systems
(EMIS). This program stream focuses on the preliminary assessment, business case
preparation and implementation of projects aimed to develop or improve plant or
corporate EMIS.
1.1 Intent
This manual accompanies the EMIS stream of the Industrial Program . The EMIS
stream provides support for three main stages leading to implemented EMIS as
indicated in Figure 1:

The objectives of this EMIS Manual are:
� To enable companies to conduct EMIS Audits and prepare EMIS Implementation
Plans.
� To provide companies with the tools to prepare a financial business case for
EMIS Implementation.
The manual has been prepared in two parts:
� PART A - will enable companies to successfully complete the EMIS Aud it stage.
An EMIS Audit should provide sufficient preliminary business case performance
metrics to enable a company to decide whether or not to proceed to the EMIS
Implementation Plan phase of the Program.
