Vishnu Vahanundu: Ragam Sankarabharanam<br />

Please watch Garuda the vehicle of Vishnu, fighting the snakes.<br />

He is the most prominent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Watch his<br />

majestic appearance.<br />

Prahlada declares that his Lord Hari can be found everywhere,<br />

be it a pillar made of stone or twig. Hiranyakashipu declares<br />

that he is invincible, then Lord Narasihma emerges out of pillar<br />

slays Hiranyakashipa with his nails.<br />

Ragam: Sowrashtra Talam: Adi<br />

In this keertana, Tyagaraja prays to Ganapathi, describing his<br />

appearance and praising his actions. He invites the devotees to<br />

serve Ganesha, who is in turn worshipped by Bramha and other<br />

gods. Ganesha dances to the perfect beat with his mind at the<br />

feet of Lord Vishnu.<br />

Ragam: Naata Talam: Adi<br />

In this 'Pancharatna Krithi', Tyagaraja praises Lord Rama as<br />

the one who is the cause of happiness in the universe, and as<br />

the Lord of Janaki. Lord Rama is described as the incarnation of<br />

Lord Vishnu, as the one worshipped by Hanuman, and as the<br />

one who broke the mighty bow of Lord Shiva.<br />

Shambo Mahadeva - Nrithyollasa Dance Academy<br />

Ragam: Pantuvarali Talam: Rupaka<br />

Tyagaraja portrays Lord Shiva as the one with matted locks,<br />

damaru and fire in his hands, adorning his body with snakes<br />

and smearing it with ashes. Shiva protected the young boy,<br />

Markandeya, from Yama's deathly clutches, and also saved the<br />

earth from the rampage of the river Ganga by trapping her in<br />

his hair.

Ragam: Devagandhari Talam: Adi<br />

Tyagaraja prays to Lord Vishnu who reclines on the milky<br />

ocean, to dispel his sorrow. He asks, “Are n’t you the one who<br />

rescued the king Gajendra from the jaws of the crocodile? Did<br />

you not save the dignity of Draupadi when she was disrobed in<br />

the royal court? Did you not release Ramadasu from the prison?<br />

Did you not cross the ocean to rescue Sita from the demon<br />

Ravana. Lord, will you not protect me?”<br />

This piece is in praise of Tyagaraja, describing him as the very<br />

personification of the primeval sound 'OM'. We bow to<br />

Tyagaraja, the great composer of music.<br />

In this piece Tyagaraja appeals to Lord Rama. He says, “O<br />

Krishna, why did you subject your parents, Devaki and<br />

Vasudeva, to such hardships? Why did you tease the Gopikas<br />

when they loved you dearly? You came to the aid of Draupadi,<br />

but you shattered my faith. You assured me not to be<br />

disheartened in times of distress and not to associate myself<br />

with devotionless people. Although I have obeyed you, you<br />

have continued to be indifferent to me. “<br />

Venugana Loluni - Sri Ranga Natyalayam<br />

Ragam: Kedaragowla Talam: Rupakam<br />

In this krithi Tyagaraja describes the beauty of Krishna as seen<br />

through the eyes of Gopikas. They say "Even a thousand eyes<br />

are not enough to enjoy the beauty of Krishna, who plays the<br />

flute in an enchanting way". The Gopikas, overtaken by joy<br />

worry that the evil-eye befalls him. They wave salt around his<br />

head to ward off evil spirits. Beautiful Gopikas sing and dance<br />

joyfully in the Brindavan.<br />

Thillana - Jayendra Kalakendra<br />

Ragam: Behag Talam: Adi<br />

Thillana is a fast paced piece with complex and rhythmic<br />

patterns, graceful movements and sculpturesque poses. Dr.<br />

Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna composed this Thillana in<br />

praise of Tyagaraja. Choreographed and performed by<br />

Sahana, Aditi and Anirudh.<br />

Prahlada Charitam – Tiruchitrambalam<br />

This piece is an excerpt from Tyagaraja’s Opera, Prahlada<br />

Bhakti Vijayam. In this opera, Tyagaraja portrays Rama as Para<br />

Brahma.<br />

Etla Kanugonduno: Ragam Ghanta<br />

Prahalada is trained by his Guru in artillery and fighting. But his<br />

heart is absorbed in devotion of Sri Hari. Hiranyakashipa<br />

considers Sri Hari as his arch enemy. He lovingly asks Prahlada<br />

to tell what he learnt..<br />

Vandanamu Raghunandana: Ragam Sahana<br />

Prahlada says “Salutations to the son of the Raghu dynasty, the<br />

builder of the Sethu Bridge and protector of the devotees. O<br />

Rama! You are the bestower of wealth. Am I not yours? Is<br />

protecting me a burden to you? “<br />

Varidhi Neeku Vandanamu: Ragam Thodi<br />

Hiranyakashipa is angered at his son's devotion to his enemy,<br />

Hari. He orders his servants to expose Prahlada to deadly<br />

snakes and to throw him in the ocean. Prahlada appeals to King<br />

of sea to dispel his sorrow. He says that he is not afraid of the<br />

evil Asuras. He pleads to Samudra to take him to his Lord.<br />

Samudra Raja lifts Prahalada and brings him ashore.<br />

Sagarundu Vedalenu: Ragam Yamuna Kalyani<br />

Please see the God of Ocean holding Prahlada in his hands! It is<br />

the ocean, on which Lord incarnated as Koorma, supporting<br />

Mandara mountain on his back.<br />

Vinata Suta Rara: Ragam Huseni<br />

Oh son of Vinata the King of birds, please come and save me<br />

from these deadly snakes. You defeated Devas to get the
