Rangmanch, literally meaning “coloring of the stage,” depicts the puja to consecrate the space and awaken the senses with the<br />

ringing of a bell, lighting of a diya, blowing of a conch. Invoking the Hindu trinity – Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwara – the dancers<br />

pay respect to the four corners of the earth.<br />

The Mahishasura Mardini Stotra describes the goddess Durga in her many forms, both fierce and nurturing. Consort of Shiva, the<br />

one who dwells in the Vindhya mountains destroyed the demons Madhu and Kaitabha. Ever blissful, she protects and nourishes<br />

the three worlds. This item sings the glory of Goddess Durga!<br />

This dance is about the season of rain. Rainy season is described as the one in which peacock dances to welcome the monsoon<br />

Tarana Dance Academy, Kathak-­‐Kala Vihar, California Nupur Dance Academy<br />

TARANA Dance Academy is a Kathak school founded in 2005 by Pragya Dasgupta, senior disciple of Guru Bandana Sen.<br />

Currently the academy has branches in Fremont, Pleasant and San Ramon CA. Kathak Kala Vihar was founded in 2010 by Sangita<br />

Nandy who has trained under Guru Bandana Sen. California Nupur Dance Academy was founded in 2006 by Dipanwita<br />

Sengupta who is also trained by Guru Bandana Sen. This academy trains students in Kathak, folk dances and Rabindra Nritya.<br />

Guru Shradha was founded in 2008 by Niharika Mohanty, a prominent disciple of Padma Vibhushan late Guru Kelucharan<br />

Mohapatra. Sri Ratikant Mohapatra is the Key Advisor and Srimati Sujata Mohapatra, is the Artistic Director of Guru Shraddha.<br />

Classes are held in Palo Alto, CA.<br />

Chitresh Das Dance Company & Chhandam School of Kathak<br />

The Chitresh Das Dance Company (CDDC) & Chhandam School was founded by Pandit Chitresh Das in 1980 and is dedicated to<br />

the preservation, promotion and education of Kathak dance and Indian Culture. CDDC�s mission is to produce exemplary<br />

traditional, innovative, and collaborative works of North Indian classical Kathak dance.<br />

Odissi Vilas : Sacred Dance of India<br />

Vishnu disciple of Smt. Jhelum Paranjape founded Odissi Vilas in ____. He then traveled to Orissa for intensive studies with<br />

Padmavibhusan Kelucharan Mohapatra. Vishnu has performed in India, Italy, Canada, and the U.S. He has presented hundreds<br />

of solo performances and lecture demonstrations.<br />
