BECA Foundation | w<br />

Established in 1984, the BECA Foundation’s<br />

purpose is to provide scholarships<br />

and community-based guidance to Latino<br />

students pursuing a college education. Students<br />

must be willing to share the benefits<br />

of their academic accomplishments, both<br />

now and in the future, with their Latino community.<br />

Scholarship recipients may reapply<br />

contingent on scholastic progress.<br />

General Scholarship Fund<br />

The BECA Foundation awards general<br />

scholarships to graduating students from<br />

North San Diego County high schools.<br />

Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000<br />

per academic year. Applicants are free to<br />

pursue their education anywhere in the U.S.,<br />

and pursue any major.<br />

Alice Newell Joslyn Medical Fund<br />

The BECA Foundation awards the Alice<br />

Newell Joslyn Medical scholarships to<br />

students who plan to enter the medical/<br />

healthcare profession and who live or attend<br />

college in San Diego County at the time of<br />

application. Eligibility is contingent upon applicants’<br />

financial need, scholastic determination,<br />

and community/cultural awareness.<br />

Awards range between $500 - $2000 per<br />

academic year. Both high school seniors and<br />

current undergraduate students are eligible<br />

to apply.<br />

Regional Scholarships<br />

California Chicano News Media<br />

Association (CNMA) | w<br />

The CCNMA Scholarships, including the<br />

Joel Garcia Memorial Scholarship and the<br />

Frank del Olmo Memorial Scholarship, are<br />

awarded annually to qualified Latino students<br />

who are planning to pursue a career<br />

in journalism. The scholarships range from<br />

$500 to $1,000 per student and are based on<br />

several criteria, including: commitment to<br />

the field of journalism, scholastic achievement,<br />

community awareness and financial<br />

need. Students must be enrolled full-time<br />

for the entire 2010-2011 academic year, and<br />

must be a California resident or attend an<br />

accredited college or university in California.<br />

CTA offers several different educational<br />

scholarships to members and their dependents<br />

throughout the academic year. These<br />

scholarships are available to individuals<br />

affiliated with the CTA, including members,<br />

student members, children of CTA<br />

members, and students who work with<br />
