Judges Report
I would like to thanks Sue and all her hard working committee
for inviting me to judge the Welsh classes at the Spring Show
2011.
Early on Saturday morning I was collected by Mike Bernstein
and driven to the show ground at Pretoria. On arrival I was
introduced to Terence Jägers a probation judge for the Welsh
classes.
The Part Bred classes were first in the ring; although the classes
were small in numbers due to the other shows in the area some
very nice ponies came forward for their respective classes.
A very nice Welsh type chestnut filly, Dibynn Chit Chat, owned
by Dibynn Stud and shown by Di Nicholson stood out and took
the Championship from the Stallion, Bronwydd Bannut
Laburnum, who unfortunately did not show himself off to his full
potential. Laburnum is owned by Sue Dittmann and shown by
Muiren Kok,
Section A classes followed on with a good moving chestnut colt
Tipuana Flamboyant, owned by Tipuana Stud and shown by
Digby Donaldson taking the Junior Championship. The senior
classes concluded with the stallions, Gwyddls Dante and
Caernafon Tabutanna Dunkid, both owned by Wehlia De Villiers
and shown by Johannes Mbewe and Jeremiah Klaas, standing
champion and reserve from the juniors.
Section B had very little support with the mare Meifod Highland
Fling being champion and the stallion Meifod Bellissimo reserve.
Both ponies are owned by Sharon Ralston and were shown by
Kiven.
In the Section C classes a free moving stallion Freyja Taliesin,
owned by Rene Le Roux and shown by Wilton Nkomo stood
champion with the mare Cavallito Hawaiin Sunset, owned by
Claudette Vianello reserve.
In the Section D classes some nice junior cobs came forward with
the 3 year old filly Llandilo Princess Royal, owned by Tipuana
Stud and shown by Digby Donaldson taking the junior championship
and the yearling Cavallito Allanay , owned by Rene Le
Roux and shown by James, reserve. The two senior mares
Bukkenburg Gwenllan, owned by Rene Le Roux and shown by
Wilton Nkomo, and Bukkenburg Gwendline, owned by Siobahn
Ralston, took the championship and reserve respectively.
The gelding class a good type of cob stood out: Freyja Victor
Bach, owned by Rene Le Roux and shown by Wilton Nkomo

headed the class to take the Championship with a Section A,
Meifod Maistro, owned by Sharon Ralston and shown by Kiven,
reserve.
Sunday, Performance Day, commenced with the First Ridden a
very well ridden pony Tipuana Eros, owned by Roly Stud and
shown by Trentin Varrall took the first place. The leading rein
was a lovely little pony, Dunkid St Peter that went well for the
small rider, Daniella Strauss. Some well schooled Partbred
ponies came forward giving a smooth ride to their riders.
The Championships were co judged with a very nice lady, Shirley
Sadleir; both Shirley and I agreed on the Champions and
Reserves. Champion Purebred Young Child’s Pony was Tipuana
Eros ridden by Trentin Varrall and Reserve was Hydown Olympic
Sportsman ridden by Tyrique Varrall. Champion Partbred Young
Child’s Pony was Foresyte Michaelangelo, owned by Ainsley
Bailey and ridden by Elena De Abreu and Reserve was Golden
Nugget owned and shown by Hannah Boulle.
The Pure Breed Ridden classes followed on with a Section A Blom
Stardust owned by Kaylin Jacobs and ridden by Imke Schamrel
Champion and the Section D Freyja Victor Bach, owned and ridden
by Rene Le Roux Reserve Champion; both the pony and the
cob performed very well in their classes.
To conclude the ridden section the large Part Bred Show Riding
class was won by a very nice type of horse, Foresyte
Michaelangelo, owned and shown by Ainsley Bailey, well produced
and ridden with the second in the class, Drummore
Picadilly, owned and shown by Kiara Joelson, going on to stand
Champion and Reserve respectively.
The Child and Junior handler classes were closely contested with
Tayla Shipper winning the child handler and Kiara Joelson the
junior handler.
I would like to thank Sue, Mike, Lyn and Roger of the Roly Stud
for their kindness, hospitality, looking after me so well and
showing me some of the lovely country side and studs in the
area.
I hope your Welsh Ponies and Cobs go from strength to strength
in South Africa and once again many thanks to you all.
