<strong>Club</strong>, Frank Chavez honored by <strong>Makati</strong><br />
City Government<br />
The City Government <strong>of</strong> <strong>Makati</strong><br />
gave recognition to RC <strong>Makati</strong><br />
and Frank Chavez in ceremonies<br />
marking Children’s Assembly 2011<br />
on the 26 th <strong>of</strong> October 2011 at the<br />
University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Makati</strong>. The Children’s<br />
Assembly was the culmination<br />
<strong>of</strong> the celebration <strong>of</strong> National<br />
Children’s Month (October) by the<br />
City Government and the <strong>Makati</strong><br />
City Council for the Protection <strong>of</strong><br />
Children (MCCPC).<br />
The award conferred on the <strong>Club</strong> was<br />
in recognition <strong>of</strong> its “unwavering support and<br />
funding <strong>of</strong> various programs and activities <strong>of</strong><br />
the City Government <strong>of</strong> <strong>Makati</strong> through the<br />
<strong>Makati</strong> Social Welfare Department (MSWD)<br />
for the welfare, development and protection<br />
<strong>of</strong> the children <strong>of</strong> <strong>Makati</strong>.” It was received by<br />
Pres. Rene Limjoco.<br />
Another plaque was given to Frank<br />
Chavez in appreciation and recognition <strong>of</strong><br />
Pres. Rene Limjoco Dir. Fred Menzel<br />
his staunch advocacy <strong>of</strong> the protection <strong>of</strong><br />
children’s rights which led to his involvement<br />
in and contributions to Bantay Bata, which he<br />
has chaired since its inception in 1996. The<br />
Bantay Bata program is a joint undertaking <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>Club</strong> and the <strong>Makati</strong> SWD. Fred Menzel<br />
received the plaque for Frank.<br />
The highlight <strong>of</strong> the program was the<br />
2 nd State <strong>of</strong> the Children Address by Mayor<br />
Jejomar Erwin “Jun Jun” Binay, Jr., who is<br />
concurrently chair <strong>of</strong> the MCCPC. Ms. Marjorie<br />
de Veyra, MSWD head and MCCPC co-chair,<br />
also delivered a special message. PP Cesar<br />
Campos was also present at the event.<br />
The event also coincided with the<br />
awarding <strong>of</strong> prizes to the winners <strong>of</strong> the 2011<br />
Search for the Most Friendly Barangay in<br />
<strong>Makati</strong>, an activity for National Children’s<br />
Month.<br />
Sponsorships for Christmas Bazaar now<br />
at P235,000 . . . more needed<br />
The Christmas Bazaar has been a great help for the <strong>Club</strong> for the<br />
past twenty-three years. It has generated upwards <strong>of</strong> P<strong>15</strong> million since<br />
its first run in November 1988, an amount that’s nothing to sneeze at.<br />
This year, more than most years in the past, the <strong>Club</strong> needs<br />
funds to keep it running smoothly and ensure that the projects get done<br />
on schedule. The bazaar raises funds from the rental <strong>of</strong> space by the<br />
vendors, the sale <strong>of</strong> tickets, and proceeds from the White Elephant<br />
table. One <strong>of</strong> the main means to raise money is through sponsorships,<br />
a job that this year falls on the shoulders <strong>of</strong> Pres. Rene Limjoco. Pres.<br />
Rene has been making calls, tapping shoulders and pushing buttons<br />
to get the cash registers ringing, so to speak. His efforts have so far<br />
yielded P235,000, and counting, we hope.<br />
He would like to give due recognition and thanks to the following<br />
Rotarians and friends <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rotary</strong> who have so generously responded to<br />

Manila Peninsula also donated a gift certificate for an overnight<br />
weekend stay in a deluxe room for two, with breakfast, while PP Freddie<br />
Borromeo & Ann Jojo will be providing the door prizes for the bazaar<br />
and the Last Angel presents for the wards <strong>of</strong> the Bahay Maria orphanage<br />
and the 60 children enrolled in the feeding program in Binondo.
