Education program resumes
again this Fall with a wide vari-
ety of classes and workshops.
Courses will focus on computer
business skills, financial plan-
ning, health, hobbies and other
topics of general interest.
Wilmington Community
Schools provide residents of
Wilmington and surrounding
communities the opportunity to
attend local affordable classes
to learn new skills or just to
enjoy a night out in a class. This
year, our popular computer
courses have been able to
expand the number of students
per class due to increased com-
puter workstations at the high
school.
Courses will include: Internet

Microsoft Word, Powerpoint,
Financial Planning. Communi-

Breaking with
tradition
"Hie Selectmen are consider-
ing abandoning the tradition of
weekly meetings and changing
to a semi-monthly schedule,"
notes the "Lynnfield Villager."
"Town Administrator Joseph
Maney said boards in most
other towns meet only twice a
month except during budget sea-
son.
"Selectman Chairman Arthur
Bourque agreed. 'I've felt that
many times that some of our
meetings weren't necessary and
the business wasn't urgent and
could have waited for another
week. We have a pretty good feel
of when we'd need to meet
weekly,' he commented.
"Maney proposed that the
Selectmen meet twice a month,
on the Mondays opposite the
Tuesday meeting nights of the
School Committee because when
a meeting falls on a Monday hol-
iday it is held the following
night.
"He said Selectman David
Drislane, who was absent this
week, is also in favor of the
scheduling change
"Bourque suggested the
board vote on the change in
September to take effect in
October which will give the pub-
lic time to react to this propos-
al."

nological breakthroughs have

ical world, it seems Lahey
Hitchcock Clinic has always

US. Congressman John Tierney,
D Salem, toured the facility on
Mall Road (which has also been
expanded to Peabody), the
entourage was treated to a
detailed explanation of the hos-
pital's new neurovascular cen-
ter.
"The center includes a
biplane x-ray machine that is
part of the new treatment for
brain aneurysms, in which the
new procedure means patients
can be treated and out of the
unit in practically one day. »

a press release from Lahey,
'provides an alternative lo brain
surgery by treating strokes and
aneurysms from the inside-out.'
"The procedure 'makes use of
the body's arteries as working
conduits to funnel drugs or sur-
gical material directly to trouble
spots,' according to the release
"In Sup Choi, MD., is direc-
tor of intcrvent ional neuroradi-
ology at Lahey. He is 'one of
only about 20' physicians in the
world skilled in this arterial
technique.
"Due to a death in his family,
Choi was not present for the
tour, which was headed by
Joshua Hirsch, M.D., and
Joanie O'Donnell. R.N.
"Hirsch described the process
in part as 'major surgery
through minor holes.'
"TVeatment for an aneurysn,
Hirsch said, can now result in s
patient being discharged 'in a
day, after being in the hospital
for a week, in the past.'
"This is the most sophisticat
ed treatment offered in the
United States and Canada,' said
Lahey Public Affairs Writer

only a few hospitals in the
world."
