Featured speakers included Robert Z. Aliber, professor of international economics and finance; Joel M. Stern, ’64, managing partner and CEO of Stern Stewart & Co.; and John S. Wadsworth Jr., ’63, advisory director of Morgan Stanley and honorary chairman of Morgan Stanley, Asia. Dean Edward A. Snyder moderated the panel. In November 2002, two dozen alumni from the classes of 1990 and later turned out in force to watch the Chicago Bulls take on the Golden State Warriors. While the Bulls came within two points, the Warriors pulled it out in the end, reports Rajesh Krishnan, ’01. The GSB alumni present were more fortunate, as Iain Drummond, ’01, won a pair of tickets to a future game and Erik Marcher, ’01, won a T-shirt. “A great time was had by all in the sparsely populated arena,” said Krishnan, noting that “the GSB cheering section was typically louder than the sedate Warriors fans.” Krishnan hopes to make the outing an annual event. Dan Dry Vital Exchange: Alumni enjoyed a lecture by David Vitale, ’76, on the history of the Chicago exchanges at the Chicago GSB Club’s annual meeting at Gleacher Center last fall. Vitale is the former president and CEO of the Chicago Board of Trade. Bern presented distinguished service awards to two outgoing members of the board: Jeff Gerns, ’90, and Marianne Murphy, ’92. Gerns was president in 1999 and 2000, and Murphy led the group in 1997 and 1998. After dinner, David Vitale, ’76, former president and CEO of the Chicago Board of Trade, spoke on the history of Chicago’s exchanges. Dean Edward A. Snyder described the progress construction crews have made on the new Hyde Park campus, reported a welcome rise in applications, and encouraged chapter members to continue supporting fellow alumni and students.
