International Student Admissions - Audio Technology Program
CHECKLIST: Your Requirements for Admission & M1 Visa Eligibility
SAE is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant foreign students (M1 Visa) in the full-time Audio Technology Program (ATP). International
students must finish the entire enrollment process, completing all items on the checklist below, before the school can issue Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for M1
Visa). The student will then present that form, along with all other required documents, to the appropriate consular officials in order to obtain the M1 visa for entry
into the United States. International students are only eligible to attend the full-time program and are not permitted to work while enrolled.
The following will guide you through the steps required to be admitted to the Audio Technology Program and obtain Form I-20. Please note how to submit
each of the documents on the checklist and use the following contact information accordingly:
Email: a.wood@sae.edu or saeny@sae.edu
Fax: (212) 944-9123
Mail: SAE Institute New York, Attn: Alex Wood
1293 Broadway, 9 th Floor
New York, NY 10001
1. Submit Application & Passport.
Submit completed Application and a copy of your passport, valid for travel at least 6 months beyond the date of intended stay in the US.
How to submit: Fax, email, or mail
2. Demonstrate English proficiency.
To satisfy the English requirement for admission, we ask that all international students submit one of the following to demonstrate sufficient English ability:
-A minimum score of 500 on Paper-based version, 173 on computer-based version, or 61 on the internet-based version of the TOEFL
-Completion of level 5 on iTEP exam
-A minimum score of 5.5 on the IELTS exam
-Proof of graduation from an English language high school
-A minimum score of 46 on the Pearson English Test (PTE)
How to submit: The examining/awarding facility must mail the official results to the school. Copies, faxes, or emails from the students not accepted.
3. Provide proof of educational achievement.
High school education received outside of the U.S. must be evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation service which will provide SAE with a report establishing
that the student has obtained the equivalent of a U.S. High School diploma. SAE will only accept an evaluation of the student’s secondary (high school) education.
Even if the student has achieved university/higher level degree, the student should only submit their high school documents for evaluation. Any foreign credential
evaluation service may be used. Examples of companies providing this service are World Education Service (www.wes.org), Globe Language
(www.globelanguage.com), and AACRAO (http://ies.aacrao.org).
How to submit: The student must apply for the evaluation with the chosen service and instruct the service to send the report directly to the school. Copies, faxes, or emails
from the student not accepted.
4. Pass the Entrance Evaluation.
A remote test will be administered for international students unable to take the entrance exam at an SAE campus. The onsite exam must be successfully completed
once the student is present. Students that cannot pass the exam will not be allowed to enroll in the program.
Please contact your SAE representative for details and to set up a date and time for the evaluation.
5. Demonstrate available financial support and stability for the period of enrollment.
This proof may be in the form of bank or other financial statements. Based on cost of living for the New York area and all program costs, students must show a
minimum of $40,000 USD in financial support, or the equivalent thereof, to satisfy this requirement. If the financial statements are in another person’s name
(i.e. parent) who plans to sponsor the student, a letter indicating that he/she plans to support the student must accompany the statements. Please request the
template of this letter from the school.
How to submit: Email, fax, or mail
6. Enrollment Agreement.
Once you have chosen a start date, you will be provided with an Enrollment Agreement for that class. Please complete the required information, sign & date all
three “Student’s Signature” and “Date” fields, and mail the original document to the school.
How to submit: Original of the signed Enrollment Agreement must be mailed to the school. Copies, faxes, and emails not accepted.
7. Payment.
International students may choose from one of three payment plans (see options & details on following page). Please indicate which payment plan you intend to use
and make the initial payment, due upon enrollment, as your final step in the enrollment process. SAE cannot enroll a student or issue any immigration forms,
including the I-20, until this payment has been received.
How to remit: wire transfer or credit card payment are the easiest options for overseas payment
USCIS & SEVIS Requirements: SEVIS is the internet-based system that maintains information on non-immigrant students, exchange visitors, and their
dependents. Once you have received your Form I-20, the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) requires that you pay the SEVIS fee before you can apply for
a student visa. The easiest way to pay the SEVIS fee is online at https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ Be sure to print your receipt- you will need it for your visa
interview.
or
Monday-Thursday, 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; special workshop classes are held on Fridays
Registration Deadline We strongly encourage international students to start the admission process as soon as possible. We recommend beginning the process at
least three months prior to the start date of the course in which you would like to enroll. Applying as an international student can be a lengthy process and there are
only 35 seats, maximum to a class, per time slot.
Housing We currently do not provide student housing, however there is an organization, Educational Housing, which many of our students use in order to find
affordable housing located in the immediate vicinity or surrounding areas near SAE. You can access their website at www.studenthousing.org Prices range from
about $7,000 to $12,000 for a nine month term.
Scholarships Currently, we do not offer any scholarships or financial aid through the school. However, you can access the FastWeb website (www.fastweb.com) to
find private scholarships that students can apply for based on different criteria.
Limitations while in the United States on an M1-Visa International students are only eligible for the full time Audio Technology Program and are not permitted to
be employed while on the M1-Visa - students are required to attend school on a full-time basis.
Transfering visa status For those who already have a different type of non-immigrant visa, transferring non-immigrant status is very difficult and not
recommended. You can access the INS website at www.uscis.gov to find out more information on this matter.
Continuing your education
All graduates who wish to continue their education at SAE are eligible to enroll in the Audio Engineering Degree program, which is offered at certain SAE campuses
overseas (currently, the only schools offering the program are in Europe, Asia, and Australia). Please feel free to access the SAE website for more information.
Our other locations If you wish to apply to another SAE location for the Audio Engineering Degree program, you must contact them for their application. All contact
information can be found on the SAE website. As far as the Audio Technology Program is concerned, there are no differences in the program as it is offered in one
school in comparison to another. Many SAE schools offer programs that other SAE schools do not.
Tours If you are planning a trip to the New York area, please feel free to schedule an appointment for a tour of the school and to speak with an Admissions
Representative or myself. The office is open for appointments Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. E.S.T.. Please call to make arrangements for an
appointment.
