Sagem develops and produces a wide range of equipment for security forces such
as police and homeland protection units. This covers several operational functions,
including staff protection, intelligence gathering, surveillance, secure communication
and engagement. Sagem’s offer is adapted to the different situations encountered in
diverse security and homeland protection missions.
Optronic equipment for surveillance
and rescue operations
JM LR and JIM MR multifunction imagers
The JIM LR (Long Range) and MR (Medium Range)
multifunction infrared imagers are highly compact
portable observation devices, with a wide
range of services: laser telemetry, north finder,
etc. In addition to a GPS, the JIM LR offers remote
image transmission and the ability to be remotely
controlled via specific terminals.

JIM MR
The JIM MR can detect both day and night a pedestrian
at a distance of up to 2.5km and can
identify the individual from 400m away. The JIM
LR can detect pedestrians from more than 5.3km
away and identify them from a distance of 950
meters. It can detect a vehicle from more than
8km away.
In addition to its use by several NATO armies, the
JIM LR is also used by homeland security forces,
namely for border surveillance missions as part
of Schengen programs (eg, in Bulgaria and Slovenia).
Vigilens multifunction portable camera
The light and ergonomic Vigilens multifunction
infrared portable camera is a spin-off of the JIM
LR imager, specially designed for police and security
forces applications.
With a GPS and a magnetic digital compass, Vigilens
can identify and localize a pedestrian day and night
from a distance of up to 800m and a vehicle from
up to 1700m. It can merge day and night images,
take photos and record videos. Retail batteries provide
it with 6 hours autonomy, and it can be used
from a laptop.
Vigilens is also adapted to land and maritime search
and rescue missions, firefighting or dealing with
environmental catastrophes.

TIPS pocket-sized thermal camera
TIPS is a brand new day/night camera designed by
Sagem. Pocket sized and light (500g with batteries),
TIPS can detect a pedestrian at a distance of 700m

to image and video transmission functions,
its interfaces allow it to observe remotely under
cover from threats.

It meets all the needs of public security (surveillance
or rescuing) or population assistance operations
(eg, searching for victims in a fire).
FELIN: a new source of technology for security
forces
The technologies and functionalities developed for the
French Army’s FELIN soldier modernization program
are now ready to be used by police and security forces.
They can also be adapted to forces’ own needs to
enhance their materiel and equipment already in use
(weapons, clothing, protective gear, all-weather communication
and observation devices, etc), serving as a
basis for the policeman of the future’s equipment.
Several of FELIN’s components on display at
Milipol 2009 can provide security units with totally
new functionalities for their operations in hostile
environments:
- Sword weapon sights.
Used for remote sighting, this device allows users to
track targets day and night and if necessary fire under
cover.
- Communicating headband
This innovation is an osteophonic device that uses bone
vibrations to transmit sound, allowing wearers to use an
individual radio furtively while listening to their environment

Matis HH adds new functions to its infrared vision,
namely stabilized observation and image recording.
It also incorporates the latest technologies developed

Protecting information – encryption
As a historic expert in cryptology, Sagem has protected
terminals that meet the needs of security forces.
These operate using cellular networks, the Internet
and Inmarsat satellites. For encrypted landline telephony,
Sagem offers interface units and software to
guarantee the confidentiality of calls and the identity
of interlocutors.
MyX-8S telephone
Light and discreet, the encrypting myX-8S mobile
phone combines the latest multimedia digital technologies
with information security. Thanks to its Mini SD
Card-format encryption module, the myX-8S can securely
and discreetly communicate with other Sagem
encrypted mobile and landline phones (MW 3026,
myX-8S and C500), with excellent sound quality for
both encrypted and regular calls.The encrypted mode
can be simply and discreetly activated by the user. The
robust secret-key algorithm (unpublished proprietary)
effectively protects communications and ensures confidentiality
and interlocutor authentication (unique session
key calculated for each call)
Compatible with the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM networks,
the myX-8S is a ‘2-in-1’ mobile phone, allowing the
user to make encrypted calls to one of Sagem’s secure
terminals and regular calls to any other telephone.
BFx100S
This new encryption unit is designed to protect fax
transmissions. The BFx 100S makes use of Sagem’s Mini
SD Card TM encryption module and connects to an RTC
outlet and all types of standard G3 faxes.
C500 encryption module
The C500 is an encryption module that provides complete
protection on telecommunication networks. It
provides the same security between landline phones
and secured mobile phones (MW 3026 S/S-MR, my-8X-
S and MR). The C500 provides confidentiality, authentication
and access control.
