Birdwood High School
As an Internationally registered CISCO academy, Birdwood High
School offers the course “IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software”
which covers the fundamentals as well as advanced concepts
of computer hardware and software. Students who complete
this course are be able to describe the internal components of a
computer, assemble a computer system, install an operating system
and troubleshoot using system tools and diagnostic software.
Students are able to connect to the Internet and share resources in a
network environment. Topics include laptops and portable devices,
wireless connectivity, security, safety and environmental issues
and communication skills. Hands-on lab activities are an essential
element of the course and virtual learning tools are integrated.
Control Technologies
Heathfield High School
This full year course provides a pathway into fields such as Industrial
Design (Product Design), Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil &
Environmental), Electronics and Robotics.
Students use state of the art robotics, CNC controlled lathes and mills
and sophisticated software to manufacture a range of components
and/or products from plastic and metal. Students gain both
“simulation” and “hands-on” experience in CNC programming as
they create and edit programs to record precise robotic positions
and to accurately machine components within given tolerances.
Students will be exposed to “lean” manufacturing practices that are
concerned with eliminating waste in the production cycle, along
with the use of sustainable environmental practices and working
safely in manufacturing.
Regional students unable to attend face to face are able to access
this course through a combination of web based learning, video
conferencing and short workshops.
