Electrotechnology is for students wanting to begin a pathway in the<br />

electrical or electronics industries. These full year courses provide<br />

opportunities for students to understand the electrical and electronic<br />

trade terminology identify and use a range of components,<br />

accessories, materials, tools, equipment and technologies and<br />

carry out electronics and electrical work. The students are involved<br />

in theory and practical work and complete a variety of electrical<br />

and electronics projects in newly completed training centres at<br />

both schools.<br />

Cabinet Making<br />

Mount Barker High School<br />

This full year course provides a broad range of career pathways for<br />

students who are looking at opportunities specifically in the furniture<br />

and cabinetmaking industries.<br />

Students complete the core competencies as well as electives from<br />

the cabinet making stream including operate and maintain static<br />

machines and produce computer aided drawings. Students have<br />

the opportunity to complete an item of fine furniture in the school’s<br />

new training centre equipped with the latest industry standard<br />

machinery including a panel saw, surface planer, thicknesser,<br />

edge bander and wide belt sander. Students gain competencies<br />

from Certificate 3 in Cabinet Making which is the beginning of an<br />

apprenticeship.<br />

Doorways to Construction<br />

The Doorways to Construction full year Certificate I program is a<br />

highly practical one which is supported by foundation theory and is<br />

designed for students wishing to explore a career in the building and<br />

construction industry. The focus is on providing hands on practical<br />

experience in the trade areas of carpentry, concreting, tiling,<br />

painting and decorating, joinery, plastering, gyprocking, bricklaying<br />

and demolition. Students complete compulsory and elective units<br />

of competency from the Construction training package that will<br />

count towards an apprenticeship. As part of this course students will<br />

complete their White Card training which is the regulatory authority<br />

requirement before entry to a building site is permitted.<br />

Doorways to Construction PLUS<br />

Heathfield High School<br />

Students who graduate from the D2C course who wish to further their<br />

construction skills in specialist areas can apply for the D2C+ Program.<br />

HHS will offer Certificate 3 in Carpentry where students will focus on<br />

first and second fix carpentry. Other Certificate 3 specialist programs<br />

will be offered at other school sites and RTO’s around Adelaide.<br />

Successful completion of a D2C+ program may account for up to<br />

2 years off an apprenticeship, to be negotiated with the Registered<br />

Training Organisation and future employer.<br />

Civil Construction<br />

Murray Bridge High School<br />

This semester course delivered in partnership with the Construction<br />

Industry Training Board (CITB), is designed for students who wish<br />

to explore a career in the Civil Construction Industry. Through the<br />

course students begin pathways into the Civil Construction industry<br />

and undertake units of competency including Occupational Health<br />

and Safety and Plan and organise Work enhancing student’s<br />

employability. Students also obtain their White Card which is a<br />

requirement for admission on any building site. In addition students<br />

complete practical projects and spend time on heavy vehicle<br />

simulators through Civil Train.<br />
