WHAT IS<br />

A VET<br />

COURSE?<br />

Vocational<br />

Education and Training<br />

(also known as VET) is education<br />

and training that gives students skills<br />

and knowledge for work.<br />

IN A VET COURSE<br />

STUDENTS UNDERTAKE:<br />

Off the job learning at a school or<br />

another training provider. Students<br />

complete Units of Competency<br />

from their chosen industry Training<br />

Package. The training may be one<br />

day a week or in blocks<br />

On the job learning which occurs<br />

at one or more workplaces and is<br />

referred to as Structured Workplace<br />

Learning (SWL).<br />

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VET COURSES?<br />

Opportunities to explore areas of interest which assist<br />

students in making decisions about further study and<br />

work<br />

VET Qualifications are nationally recognised<br />

Students will credit towards traineeships and<br />

apprenticeships<br />

Students can complete SA Certificate of Education<br />

(SACE) whilst completing their VET qualification<br />

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) increases<br />

opportunities for employment. The skills and knowledge<br />

gained whilst completing the work placement are what<br />

employers want.<br />

WHAT IS ADELAIDE HILLS AND<br />

MURRAYLANDS PATHWAYS (AHMPS)?<br />

<strong>AHMPs</strong> is the name given to a group of member<br />

schools in the Adelaide Hills and Murraylands who work<br />

together to provide Vocational Education and Training<br />

(VET) and Industry Pathway Program (IPP) opportunities<br />

for their students incorporating the Adelaide Hills Trade<br />

Training Centre and the Lower Murray Trade<br />

Training Centre.<br />

CAN DOING VET HELP ME GET MY<br />

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CERTIFICATE OF<br />

EDUCATION (SACE)?<br />

Yes! Successful completion of a VET course will count<br />

towards your SACE. The value of each course, including<br />

whether it counts as Stage1 or 2, and the number of SACE<br />

Credits, is determined by the SACE Board. Completed<br />

VET Certificate 3 qualifications can contribute towards an<br />

Australian Tertiary Admission Rank.<br />
