WHAT IS
A VET
COURSE?
Vocational
Education and Training
(also known as VET) is education
and training that gives students skills
and knowledge for work.
IN A VET COURSE
STUDENTS UNDERTAKE:
Off the job learning at a school or
another training provider. Students
complete Units of Competency
from their chosen industry Training
Package. The training may be one
day a week or in blocks
On the job learning which occurs
at one or more workplaces and is
referred to as Structured Workplace
Learning (SWL).
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VET COURSES?
Opportunities to explore areas of interest which assist
students in making decisions about further study and
work
VET Qualifications are nationally recognised
Students will credit towards traineeships and
apprenticeships
Students can complete SA Certificate of Education
(SACE) whilst completing their VET qualification
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) increases
opportunities for employment. The skills and knowledge
gained whilst completing the work placement are what
employers want.
WHAT IS ADELAIDE HILLS AND
MURRAYLANDS PATHWAYS (AHMPS)?
AHMPs is the name given to a group of member
schools in the Adelaide Hills and Murraylands who work
together to provide Vocational Education and Training
(VET) and Industry Pathway Program (IPP) opportunities
for their students incorporating the Adelaide Hills Trade
Training Centre and the Lower Murray Trade
Training Centre.
CAN DOING VET HELP ME GET MY
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CERTIFICATE OF
EDUCATION (SACE)?
Yes! Successful completion of a VET course will count
towards your SACE. The value of each course, including
whether it counts as Stage1 or 2, and the number of SACE
Credits, is determined by the SACE Board. Completed
VET Certificate 3 qualifications can contribute towards an
Australian Tertiary Admission Rank.
