“Overcoming Disaster: Drivers of Individual
Determination On The Roof Of The World”
• The one question that's always worth asking
• A trick of the mind to remove the fear of failure
• Why the best way to achieve your ambition is to forget about it
Paul Deegan
Everest Mountaineer and
Award Winning Author
In 1988, at the age of 18, Paul Deegan co-led a
47 strong expedition to deal with three decades
of rubbish that had accumulated at Everest Base
Camp. So began a 15 year quest to reach the
summit of the world's highest mountain. After
climbing to within one day of the summit in
1995, Paul made a second attempt in 1996 and
became embroiled in the now infamous ‘Into Thin Air’ climbing
season which claimed the lives of 11 climbers – the worst disaster
in the mountain's history. He vowed never to return. Eight years
later, Paul decided to face his fears and return to Everest in a final
attempt to fulfil his ambition.
