Safariland Model 6304 ALS Tactical Holster shown with Glock pistol. Often it seems that peace offi cers want what the military uses, and private citizens want what law enforcement uses. It was not that many years ago when it seemed like everyone wanted a .38 revolver because “that’s what the cops use.” This is not only the case with fi rearms, but other gear as well. A prime example is drop-leg (thigh) holsters. Don’t get me wrong, there is a need for thigh holsters, but it is primarily to position what is normally the secondary gun (the pistol) where body armor/load bearing gear is not in the way. Still, I see some students—who are about as likely to need a thigh holster as I will be going to work for NASA— show up to classes with thigh holsters. Recently I received a holster from Safariland—the Model 6304 ALS Tactical Holster—for test and evaluation. The 6304 is a Level II Plus security holster and is available for most popular service pistols. Mine was ordered to fi t a 1911 Government Model. The body of the holster is constructed with thermal-molded Safari-Laminate, safeguarding the gun and the molded sight track, and features soft Safari-Suede, which provides additional protection for the sight and fi nish of the gun. The body of the holster is attached to the leg panel—also made from Safari-Laminate—with three large Allen-head screws.
