ranges out to 300 yards max. I also find
that I cannot shoot as precisely at 100-300
yards with a red dot as I can with a chevron
or a crosshair. On the other hand,
at point blank to 50 yards, I find that I
can engage extremely quickly with a red
dot. I also find it takes me awhile to determine
which brightness setting works
best for my vision in different levels of
brightness. I zeroed the red dot at 100
yards and was shooting five-shot groups
of around three inches. Since I was
shooting military surplus SS109, which
is not held to the most rigorous accuracy
standards, and since I was having a bit of
trouble properly acquiring the red dot in
bright sunlight, I was satisfied.
I wanted to see if the laser was indeed
co-aligned with my now-zeroed red
dot, so the other night I took the Stag
carbine without magazine and checked
above: ISM-V’s controls-red dot
intensity buttons on the top and
laser pressure button on the left.
left: ISM-V allows easy use of
BUIS in conjunction with the front
post through the lens.
the chamber twice to be sure it was unloaded.
Then I went into my darkened
downstairs and tried sighting down a
dimly lit hall. The red dot was virtually
superimposed on the laser’s red dot. I
also tried operating the controls in low
light and had little difficulty.
I really, really like the ISM-V. It is only
5”x2.6”x3.3” and weighs only nine ounces.
Without hanging a laser on my handguard,
I get a laser combined with my
red dot and I don’t have to zero the laser
independently-it’s all good! §
