CAR A4 with optional Quad Rail Handguard Source Code: BJJ 26 S.W.A.T. » DECEMBER 2007 SWATMAG.COM 231.22845 SWAT Dec07.indd 1 8/15/07 2:44:15 PM has two retention devices. The fi rst, the locking hood, is released by pushing the thumb tab straight down and then pushing it forward, rotating the hood away from the pistol. This motion takes some practice to get used to, but after a short time becomes very instinctive. Since I don’t know who may read this article, I will not describe how to disable the second retention device. Suffi ce to say that with practice it is quick to use and very secure. To the front and side of the rotating hood is a shield to help protect the gun. There is a tension screw on the outside of the holster so the user can adjust for how much force he wants to apply to draw the pistol. The belt hanger is capable of fi tting any size belt. The hanger strap uses the same three screws that attach the body of the holster to the leg panel. Enough adjustment is built into the belt hanger that it can be worn down around the knee or almost as high as a standard duty holster. The two elastic leg straps are approximately 1 ½ inches wide and attach with quick-release buckles. Both leg straps can be used or removed as needed. If there is a downside to this holster, it’s that if an operator is used to a holster with less security and switches to using this holster without taking the time to practice with it—and is faced with a high stress situation—they might not be able to draw as quickly as they need. In the instructions that come with the holster, Safariland cautions not to use the 6304 on duty until a draw can be completed in less than two seconds. This, however, is a training issue and no fault of the holster, and becomes a non-issue if the end user trains and practices with it. If you are one of the people who needs a quality thigh holster, it would be hard to go wrong with Safariland’s Model 6304 ALS Tactical Holster. Suggested retail for the 6304 is $192.00. § SOURCE: Safariland Dept. S.W.A.T. 3120 E. Mission Blvd. Ontario, CA 91761 (800) 347-1200 www.safariland.com
