in 1926, where he lettered four<br />

with a score of 65. Over the<br />

course of hIS golfing career he<br />

scored three holes m one<br />

in Detroit as personnel dilector<br />

brothers Russell and Wilham<br />

He IS survived by hiS Wife,<br />

Adele; two sons, Gary, of Dallas,<br />

and Greg, of Mmneapohs;<br />

two daughters, Gall Dembek, of<br />

Grosse Pomte Woods, and Jean,<br />

of Farmington HIlls; seven<br />

-= grandchIldren; hiS brothers,<br />

I Russell and William, and three<br />

r sisters, Violet, LIllIan and RIta<br />

Born m Port Huron, he was<br />

a graduate of Detroit's Eastern<br />

High School and attended the<br />

University of Michigan He was<br />

the first advertismg manager of<br />

the Grosse Pomte News m the<br />

1940s He also worked as finan-<br />

Cial account executIve <strong>for</strong> the<br />

DetrOIt Free Press and as regIonal<br />

advertising manager <strong>for</strong><br />

Parade Magazine.<br />

As a lIeutenant m the Navy<br />

durmg World War II, Mr Hammen<br />

was statIOned m the PhIllippines<br />

and the New HebrIdes<br />

He enjoyed sailing and sports<br />

car rallies<br />

He was a member of the Detroit<br />

Boat Club, Grosse Pointe<br />

Yacht Club and the DetrOIt<br />

AthletIc Club.<br />

Arrangements were made by<br />

the Chas. Verheyden Funeral<br />

Home in Grosse Pointe Park.<br />

He is survived by his wIfe,<br />

Ehzabeth Starr; a brother, a<br />

niece and nephew<br />
