Some of my favorite aspects of putting together an event are all the little details that really stand out to your guests
as well-planned and carefully designed. The most visible upon first impression tend to be the centerpieces you
choose for your guest or reception tables. The trend these days is do-it-yourself, which is perfect for events of all
budgets and themes!
Floral—go the traditional route and pretty up your tables with a classic or more modern arrangement
The Rule of 3’s: Odd-numbers of flowers in your arrangement looks more balanced and natural; if you are using
multiple varieties of flowers, try for 3 or 5 in each vase
Petites: Instead of one big arrangement on a table, opt for multiple smaller vases in varying vases, such as old
glass bottles or several silver / mint julep cups. Keep the piece low and you can spread out on the table, or
bunch together.
Leafy Cover-Up: One simple, elegant way to hide the exposed stems in a glass vase is to take a large, broad leaf
and wrap it around the inside of the vase before you put in the flowers and water. Easy fix!
Blooms: Go for max impact and still save a little money by working with flowers that have big blooms. Think
hydrangeas, peonies or amaryllis to add color and fill in with less stems.
A Little Variety: Play with different textures and colors to spruce up your fresh florals. Try adding in buds,
seedpods, foliage from your yard, fern curls, or moss-covered branches for a natural look.
Non-Floral—get creative with things you have on hand or play with non-traditional decorative pieces.
Candles—for evening events, look great as all uniform size, or varying heights and containers
Fruit—keep them whole and you can even sit them in water the day of the event (try to avoid slices)
Branches or Fern Curl—incorporate into a floral piece or arrange by themselves in a pretty glass vase
Lanterns / Antiques—use votives or pillar candles to illuminate these unique conversation pieces
Feathers (ostrich or patterned)—add volume and statement with inexpensive big feathers of all colors
Foliage from the Yard—don’t be afraid to snip away! Use a pretty container and work with what you have in
your yard; so many fun textures to enjoy. Just watch out for bugs!
Several small glass
vases—get some inexpensive
old ones at a
local junk shop
