26 Taxi A taxi ride from the airport to the city centre costs approximately CHF 45 (€38 or $50). The phone numbers of the main taxi companies are 022 33 141 33 (Taxi-Phone); 0800 801 802 (NewCab); or 0800 820 202 (Taxi 202). Public Transportation Please note that you can pick up a free ticket for public transport from a machine in the baggage collection area at the arrival level at Geneva airport. This ticket allows you to use public transport in Geneva free for a period of 80 minutes. Upon check-in at the hotel, you will receive the Geneva Transport Card which will give you free access to the entire public transportation network of Geneva (bus, train and boat) during your whole stay. Shopping and service charges In Switzerland there is a 8 % VAT tax on goods, which is included in the sales price. Foreign visitors are entitled to a refund of the VAT on purchases over CHF 400. Just ask at the shops for your Global Refund Tax-free Cheque and reclaim the VAT. Shops are generally open from Monday to Wednesday and Fridays from 09:00 to 19:00, Thursdays from 09:00 to 21:00 and Saturdays from 09:00 to 18:00. On Sundays the shops are closed. The prices for hotels, restaurants and taxis include taxes and service. Therefore, a tip is not indispensable, except when the customer is especially satisfied with the service. Vaccinations No vaccinations are required to enter Switzerland. Visas Travellers requiring a visa to enter Switzerland should ensure that it entitles them to re-enter after having visited neighbouring countries.
