KANSAS — After winning five games following a
inless 2010-11 campaign, the Lakota boys are hoping
o build on the progress they made last year.
The Raiders will depend on experience that Lakota
oach Tim Walsh thinks will propel them to the upper
alf of the Midland Athletic League.
“We are a bit more experienced than we have been,”
Walsh said, “These same kids, a lot of them were playing
varsity two years ago. They took their lumps back
then, now they’ve matured, they have experience and
they’ve gotten a little bit bigger.”
Lakota will have to overcome a lack of consistent
shooting and rebounding with the loss of leading scorer
and rebounder Nick McDole, whose 10 points and 5
rebounds per game will be missed.
“We’ve (only) got a couple of post players; other than
that we’re very guard oriented,” Walsh said. “Obviously,
my concern right now is if we will be able to rebound
effectively.”
Walsh expects third-year starter Kody Brewer to
do much of the teams scoring this year. The 6-foot-1
senior averaged 7.5 points per game in addition to his

Raiders coach Mike Miller expects progress this
ear after a 4-18 overall record and 1-9 league mark
n his second year as coach.
“We’re a little quicker this year,” Miller said of this
year’s squad, “so I think our defense will be better
and our post play will be better.”
Miller is wary of his team’s ability to score from
the outside, but if he gets his way most of the scoring
will be coming from inside the paint.
The Raiders will miss the 12.9 points and 6.9
rebounds per game of Jessica Hoffman, who was lost
to graduation last year, but they will count on 5-foot-4
senior Stephanie Miller, who led the team with 3.6
assists per game last year and will play a key roll in
the getting the ball to the right spots.
Also, 5-10 sophomore Katie Park, who averaged
5.7 rebounds a game in only a little more than half
of a varsity season last year, will be important to
improving the team’s post play.

Sprow (6-2), Nick Alexander (5-8) and Brandon Carver
(6-4), juniors Josh Kirkpatrick (6-0),and Kevin Crowe
(6-5) sophomore Casey Monroe (5-7) and freshmen
Hunter Chalfin (5-8), and Spencer King (5-11).

and Morgan Gangwer (5-6).
With strong experience, increased speed and
another year under Miller’s system, the Lakota girls
look to improve on 2011-12’s last place finish in the
Midland Athletic League.
