BETTSVILLE — Chad Garberich knew he was
aking on a challenge as the new boys coach at Betsville.
Low numbers and other factors have made for
truggles in recent years.
“People told me there were going to be difficulies,”
first-year coach Chad Garberich said. “But you
lways think you can be the one to make the differnce.”
Only one player with significant varsity experince
returns in two-year letterwinner and 5-foot-9
senior Kennedy Hossler, who averaged 3.5 points and
2.2 rebounds per game last year as the Bobcats went
4-17 overall and 1-10 in the Midland Athletic League.
With a lack of ballhandling skills and length, experience
won’t be the only thing Bettsville will have to
overcome this year.
“The boys play hard and we’re physical,” Garberich
said, “Our biggest weakness are our ball skills.
In our scrimmages, we turned the ball over like 42
times and we have no size.
Losing Dominic Miccichi and his 15.8 points
and 10.6 rebounds per game, Dominic King’s 10.6
points and Jacob Hossler’s 5.7 rebounds a game will
mean that most of team’s production has been lost
to graduation.
But Garberich’s main goal this season is to instill

confidence in a team that traditionally has struggled
in that area.
“They give up on themselves to easily,” Garberich
said. “They turn the ball over, and they hang their
head and they pout and don’t sprint back on defense.
“Our goal is to stay competitive. We’ll go the whole
four quarters. We have a lot of nonconference games
that we can win. There will be some games in the
MAL where we will have chances to compete.”
Other expected contributors for Bettsville are
seniors Tommy Kipps (6-2), Logan Robinson (6-1)
and Jacob Grine (5-11), juniors Kenneth Stander
(6-0), Robert McDole (5-7), Ryan Hager (5-9) and
freshmen Levi Robinson (5-9) and Casey Hossler
(5-8).
