Covina Historical
Society
Bill Stone, a local historian,
will lead walks from the
Firehouse/Jail Museum 125
College St. Covina on the following
Sunday afternoons;
June 22, July 6 and September
14.
The tours leave the museum
at 1:15 PM and last about fortyfive
minutes. Bill shows some
of the historic facades and also
some of the back alleys that
explain old time historic Covina.
No reservations are required,
but please show up at the Museum
about 1:00 PM to let the
guide know that you are there

Flag Retirement
Ceremony
The 23rd annual flag retirement
ceremony, conducted by
Boy Scout Troop 483 and the
Serrano Chapter of the Daughters
of the American Revolution
will take place at 10 a.m. on
Saturday, June 14 at the United
Methodist Church, 201 East
Bennett Avenue in Glendora.

One of the most popular senior
programs is the Carefree
Café. Low-cost lunches are

Center, Monday through Friday,
from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15
p.m., for $2.00 per person. Entertainment
is provided on select

Relay For Life
"Relay For Life" is a fun-filled
overnight event designed to
bring together those who have
been touched by cancer in our
community. At the event, we
celebrate survivors and raise
money to help the American
Cancer Society in its mission to
save lives, help those who have
been touched by cancer and
empower individuals to fight
back. Teams of people will
gather at Horsethief Canyon
Park and take turns walking
laps. Each team tries to keep at
least one team member on the
track for a 24 hour period.
"Relay for Life" gives you the
power to help in the fight against
cancer. By joining together as
volunteers and donors, our efforts
help the American Cancer
Society strive toward a future
where cancer doesn't take the
lives of our friends and family.

The theme of this year's
Summer Reading Club for infants
through fifth grade is
"Catch the Reading Bug" and for

16. Besides getting prizes for
reading books, children can go
on a Treasure Hunt in the Library,
and get a Recreation and

Collectible Cars
Come to the West Covina Library
and learn all about collectible
cars at two great events to
be held on Saturday, June 14.
First, from 10 am to noon, a
group of local classic car enthusiasts,
the "Cal Rods," will
show off their outstanding autos
in a car show to be held in
the library parking lot. Then at
1 pm, Dennis McCargar, librarian,
lecturer, and classic car fanatic
will give a talk on the essentials
of collectible cars. Mr.
McCargar, who has served as
docent and lecturer for the
Towe Auto Museum in Sacramento,
will discuss what makes

Annual Citrus College
Summer Basketball Camp

Want your children to do
something productive this summer?
Enroll them in a Citrus
College Basketball Camp!
Local youngsters, ages 6 to
14, can learn the fundamentals
of one of America's most popular
sports by participating in an
exciting day camp session.
Session I will be held from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m., June 23 through
27. Session II will be held from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m., July 7 through
11.
"Our teaching emphasis is
bigger than basketball," said
Rick Croy, Citrus College's
head basketball coach. "Our
energetic staff will give detailed
attention to individuals in the
areas of ball handling, passing,
dribbling, footwork, defense,
and rebounding. Campers will
also learn the keys to shooting
in a competitive enthusiastic
environment."
Croy, who recently led the
Citrus College men's basketball
team to a California State Title
and 35-1 record, says that the
camp's coaches and counselors
were selected because of their
knowledge and love for basketball.
"The staff will be made up
of former and current college
players who have a proven ability
to effectively teach the
game," he said. "You will not
find a group of coaches and
counselors more dedicated and
enthusiastic about improving
your child's basketball skills."
The cost of each session is
$150. This year, all camp sessions
will take place at Glendora
High School due to the current
renovation of the Citrus College
Gymnasium.
Space is limited, so interested
parties are encouraged to register
as soon as possible. A $25
non-refundable deposit is required
at time of registration,
with the balance to be paid on
the first day of camp.

on a holiday, then distribution

of the month.
