Baldw<strong>in</strong> comes, <strong>in</strong> contrast to most <strong>of</strong> its predecessors, not from Bavaria, but from a noble family from Niederrhe<strong>in</strong>, or<br />

Fl<strong>and</strong>ers, <strong>and</strong> had no personal relationship with Salzburg. Baldw<strong>in</strong> was consecrated as Archbishop on 25 Oktober<br />

1041. Baldw<strong>in</strong> was particular on <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>tenance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bishop's possessions <strong>and</strong> made, like many <strong>of</strong> his predecessors,<br />

a "codex traditionum" about <strong>the</strong> donations that were received made dur<strong>in</strong>g his reign.<br />

The most significant event <strong>of</strong> his reign was <strong>the</strong> gift <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> widow <strong>of</strong> Count Wilhelm, called Hemma, <strong>in</strong> which at<br />

Baldw<strong>in</strong>s suggestion was given to <strong>the</strong> Church <strong>of</strong> St. Mary at Gurk, <strong>and</strong> built <strong>the</strong>re, <strong>and</strong> founded a nunnery. Baldw<strong>in</strong><br />

died on 8 April 1060.<br />
