The objective of the Mumbai Police is to protect and serve the community. It is our
motto. To achieve this objective, we have been striving to be in tune with the
changing times. Constant communication with the community is the mantra for
improving the public perception of the police. This is the best way to identify and
deal with the anti-national and anti-social elements. In other words, the Mumbai
police are working more closely with the public than ever before. No doubt, it is a
challenge to maintain and sustain a positive and inspiring image. However, we are
doing our best to live up to the people's expectations. Because, our primary duty is
to work toward one goal; to ensure that the public have a safe environment in
which to live and work.
The Mumbai police is aware that the city is very diverse historically. Over time, we
have learnt to treat all the members of society equally since they all have varied but
equally valuable skills, irrespective of their gender, religion or caste. Hence, it is
our endeavour to reflect the broader diversity of the public that we represent.
Towards this end, we have been striving to build better relationships with
communities, making best efforts to eliminate discrimination in dealing with the
public. It is also our constant endeavour to ensure that members of the public
believe that the police are sincere about dealing with them fairly and with respect.
I hope The Protector will reflect the commitment of the Mumbai Police to serve the
society and the values that the force stands for.
