<strong>Jews</strong> were still a deadly threat, however. S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong>y could no longer depend<br />
on <strong>the</strong>ir f<strong>or</strong>mer political and economic power with<strong>in</strong> Germany, <strong>the</strong>y turned to<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividual acts of violence. Julius Streicher was <strong>the</strong> most prolific source of such<br />
images dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> period, but <strong>the</strong>y sometimes appeared <strong>in</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r popular periodicals<br />
as well. Streicher pr<strong>in</strong>ted a large number of vivid caricatures and st<strong>or</strong>ies of alleged<br />
Jewish sexual violence, and a significant number of st<strong>or</strong>ies on Jewish ritual murder.<br />
There were several special editions on <strong>the</strong> latter <strong>the</strong>me which had en<strong>or</strong>mous pr<strong>in</strong>t<br />
runs. S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong>y resemble <strong>the</strong> images already discussed, <strong>the</strong>re is no need to provide<br />
m<strong>or</strong>e here. 6<br />
There was also some emphasis on <strong>the</strong> alleged cruelty of Jewish kosher<br />
slaughter. A 1938 Stürmer edition carried grisly photographs of Jewish cruelty.<br />
