I have found no images of violence aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>Jews</strong> dur<strong>in</strong>g and after <strong>the</strong><br />

November 1938 Kristallnacht. Although it was <strong>the</strong> most violent ant-­‐Semitic episode<br />

pri<strong>or</strong> to <strong>the</strong> war, <strong>Nazi</strong> press coverage emphasized <strong>the</strong> alleged cause (popular<br />

German violence was a justified and moderate response by <strong>the</strong> German public. Pr<strong>in</strong>t<br />

coverage stated that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Jews</strong> were responsible f<strong>or</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir fate. A Stürmer cover soon<br />

after depicted <strong>the</strong> pistol-­‐wield<strong>in</strong>g assass<strong>in</strong> about his w<strong>or</strong>k. Although <strong>the</strong><br />

accompany<strong>in</strong>g article stated: “It was unavoidable that a few w<strong>in</strong>dows
