DOCTRINAL SUMMARY
The phrase “in order that” in Ephesians 3:10 indicates that this was the design or this
was the purpose for which all things were made. One of the grand purposes in the
creation of the universe was that the wisdom of God might be clearly shown by the
Church. It was not enough to evince God’s wisdom by the formation of the sun, stars,
earth, seas, mountains, and floods. And it was not enough to show it by the creation of
intelligent beings ~ the formation of immortal minds on the earth and the various
ranks of the angelic world. There are aspects of the divine character which can be
understood only in connection with the redemption of man. Hence, the universe was
created and man was made upon the earth, not merely to illustrate the divine perfection
in the work of creation, but in a still more illustrious manner through the work of
redemption, and in formation of the Church.
Therefore, the ultimate goal of both creation and redemption is the manifestation of
God’s divine wisdom. In particular, Paul’s commission to proclaim the mystery of
the church is designed to promote this objective as the Church now becomes God’s choice
instrument to reveal His wisdom. The Church becomes the mirror through which the
bright ones of heaven see the glory of God. And in order to show them this glory, God has
committed the gospel to the Church.
