DOCTRINAL OCTRINAL LESSON ESSON
DOCTRINAL SUMMARY
If Christ did not rise from the dead then (1) He was a liar, because He predicted He
would rise (Matt. 20:19); and (2) He would still be dead ~ so we wouldn’t have a High
Priest, Advocate, or Head for the church; and (3) there would be no Gospel ~ because we
will not be raised from the dead either (1Cor. 15:20-23); and finally (4) our witness is
false, our faith is meaningless, and our future is hopeless (1Cor. 15:13-19). We are of men
to be most pitied ~ having placed our faith in a hoax.
However, we know by eyewitness accounts of numerous appearances and an empty
tomb that He rose from the dead three days after He was crucified. The Apostles and
other early believers were so convinced of the resurrection that their entire lives were
transformed and given to the propagation of the Gospel of Christ. The resurrection of
Christ was an integral part of their Gospel presentations ~ Acts 2:24-36, 3:15-26,
5:29-32, 10:39-43, 13:27-39, 17:18+30-32. Therefore, the resurrection of Christ is
central to Christianity; indeed, we even meet for worship on the day of the week that
Christ rose from the dead!
Christ rose with a new kind of resurrection body, one that was physical ~ but yet was
eternal and would never die again. After the resurrection, He could enter rooms with
locked doors, appear and disappear at will, and apparently with no limitations. It was a
truly glorified body as we see in Rev. 1:12-16. We also will have a resurrection similar to
Christ’s (1Cor. 15:35-51, Phil. 3:20) at the end of this age.
A nd finally, Christ’s resurrection proved that He was a Prophet (Matt. 28:6), that He is
the Lord and Messiah (Acts 2:36), and most importantly that He is the Son of God
(Rom. 1:4).
