DOCTRINAL SUMMARY
While it is not possible to give a definition of God, it is possible to give a general
description of His being. The Bible doesn’t attempt to define God, but the nearest
approach is found is Jesus’ statement “God is spirit” (John 4:24). This means that He is
essentially spirit ~ so that all the qualities which belong to the perfect idea of spirit are
necessarily found in Him ~ that He is a self-conscious and self-determining being.
The fact that He is spirit also involves His personality, for a spirit is an intelligent and
moral being. The personality of God is clearly indicated in His intelligent and
purposeful action in the world; and in the rational, moral, and religious nature of man.
God is presented in Scripture as a personal God who comes and goes, with whom men
can converse, whom they can trust, and who enters into their experiences and sustains
them.
God is distinguished from all His creatures by His infinite perfection. He possesses
His being and virtues without any limitations or imperfection. He is not only
boundless, but is exalted above all His creation with ineffable majesty.
He is not composed of different parts, but His essence is a singular essence. The being
of God is not something that exists to which other attributes may be added; but
rather the whole of His essence is in each one of His attributes. And the summation of all
that God is - that is the glory of God.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 ~ “Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom,
and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;
but let him who boasts boast about this, that he understands and knows Me...”
