1st <strong>Charmouth</strong> Scout Group<br />

Toni Green, <strong>the</strong> Cub Scout Leader<br />

at <strong>the</strong> 1st <strong>Charmouth</strong> Scout group<br />

is retir<strong>in</strong>g. The Cub Scouts and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r Leaders would like to thank Toni<br />

<strong>for</strong> all her hard work with <strong>the</strong> Pack<br />

over <strong>the</strong> last few years. Toni stepped<br />

<strong>in</strong> to save <strong>the</strong> Pack from closure and<br />

has given plenty of Cubs an excit<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and active programme of activities.<br />

The Cub Pack is currently look<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> a new Leader to<br />

prevent <strong>its</strong> closure. If any adult th<strong>in</strong>ks <strong>the</strong>y would like to<br />

take over this role to give <strong>the</strong> Cubs an excit<strong>in</strong>g fun, and<br />

balanced programme, or knows anyone who might like to<br />

be <strong>in</strong>volved, please speak to <strong>the</strong>m and ask <strong>the</strong>m to contact<br />

<strong>the</strong> Group Scout Leader – Trev Jarvis on 07702 408455. All<br />

Tae Kwon-Do School<br />

opens <strong>in</strong> <strong>Charmouth</strong><br />

East Devon Tae Kwon Do,<br />

<strong>the</strong> collective name <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

TAGB tae kwon-do schools<br />

<strong>in</strong> Colyton and Axm<strong>in</strong>ster,<br />

has changed <strong>its</strong> name to<br />

East Devon & West Dorset<br />

Tae Kwon-Do, with <strong>the</strong><br />

open<strong>in</strong>g of a new school <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Charmouth</strong>.<br />

Classes run twice a week, on<br />

Wednesdays and Thursdays,<br />

from 6pm to 7pm, at The<br />

Community Hall, Lower Sea Lane. The <strong>in</strong>structor is Mr G<br />

Waugh, a black belt who already runs classes <strong>in</strong> Axm<strong>in</strong>ster.<br />

Students from <strong>Charmouth</strong> who wish to also tra<strong>in</strong> at<br />

Axm<strong>in</strong>ster or even Colyton, can do so at no additional<br />

charge. Families who tra<strong>in</strong> toge<strong>the</strong>r receive a discounted<br />

rate.<br />

This will be one of over 600 TAGB (Tae Kwon Do Association<br />

of Great Brita<strong>in</strong>) schools across <strong>the</strong> UK. Tens of thousands<br />

of martial artists, male and female, young and old, have<br />

tra<strong>in</strong>ed with <strong>the</strong> TAGB s<strong>in</strong>ce it was founded <strong>in</strong> 1983. The<br />

first class <strong>in</strong> <strong>Charmouth</strong> was on Wednesday 1st September<br />

and every new student's first class is always a free trial.<br />

There is no obligation to jo<strong>in</strong> and no fixed term contracts.<br />

Leader can be found <strong>the</strong>re is a danger of <strong>the</strong> Cub Pack<br />

clos<strong>in</strong>g. This would be a great loss <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> village.<br />

The Scout Troop stayed open <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> summer and had<br />

various members attend. The programme <strong>in</strong>cluded cook<strong>in</strong>g<br />

trout on fires and roast<strong>in</strong>g marshmallows, a round<br />

<strong>Charmouth</strong> observation quiz, mapp<strong>in</strong>g exercises and<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g and cross<strong>in</strong>g a rope bridge. The Scouts that have<br />

attended have enjoyed <strong>the</strong> activities.<br />

Both sections are meet<strong>in</strong>g dur<strong>in</strong>g term time and if any<br />

children would like to come along and try <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g out<br />

<strong>the</strong>n please ask your parents to contact <strong>the</strong> Group Scout<br />

Leader. Cubs are aged between 8 and 10½ years, Scouts<br />

are aged between 10½ and 14 years.<br />

Brownies<br />

Our f<strong>in</strong>al meet<strong>in</strong>g last<br />

term was great fun -<br />

plankton trawl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

sea with Meriel from <strong>the</strong><br />

Heritage Centre – it was<br />

amaz<strong>in</strong>g what we all found<br />

and exam<strong>in</strong>ed under <strong>the</strong><br />

microscopes. Our newest<br />

recru<strong>its</strong> <strong>the</strong>n made <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

Brownie Promise overlook<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> sea and we f<strong>in</strong>ished off with a BBQ followed by lots of<br />

cakes!! Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> holidays we took part <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fayre<br />

parade and had fun runn<strong>in</strong>g a children’s games stall <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

park.<br />

This term is look<strong>in</strong>g to be just as much fun with mak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

chocolate apples, a centenary camp fire, trip to visit <strong>the</strong><br />

donkeys, Remembrance Day parade, Christmas activities<br />

and s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g Christmas carols <strong>for</strong> old people <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> village,<br />

amongst our usual fun and games!<br />

<strong>Charmouth</strong> Brownies is <strong>for</strong> girls aged 7 – 10. We meet<br />

once a week <strong>in</strong> term time and have fun do<strong>in</strong>g lots of great<br />

th<strong>in</strong>gs – learn<strong>in</strong>g new skills and help<strong>in</strong>g people <strong>in</strong> our<br />

<strong>community</strong>. We’re desperately look<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> adults to come<br />

along and help- just one meet<strong>in</strong>g a term or as much as you<br />

like. You’d be very welcome – Brownies are great at mak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> adults tea and biscu<strong>its</strong>!! If you can help <strong>in</strong> any way<br />
