Adjusting the Suspension Assembly Combat Personal Equipment An “Instruction Booklet on Ballistic Helmet” is provided with each helmet. Please refer to the booklet on details of adjusting the suspension assembly for better fit and comfort. When fitted and worn properly, there should be approximately 12mm between the mesh crown and the helmet for good ventilation. Your helmet should also rest on your head comfortably and firmly. It should not slide to the back, front or side of your head when you are performing combat related activities such as bayonet fighting or during Standard Obstacle Course (SOC) training. *Note: Hair should not protrude out in front of the helmet. The pictures on the following pages show some common mistakes made by soldiers when they wear their helmet that was wrongly adjusted. The correct way of wearing the helmet is also shown.
Wrong This soldier is wearing his helmet too high. He should adjust the mesh crown (refer to the “Instruction Booklet on Ballistic Helmet”) so that the helmet is able to sit lower on his head. Combat Personal Equipment Wrong This soldier has obviously not adjusted his helmet properly. It is too loose. He should adjust the suspension assembly so that the helmet rests firmly on his head. He should also adjust the chinstrap so that his chin rests on the chin-cup properly.
