1 this meeting is terrific, and we can invite anybody,
2 NAACP, whoever, to talk this sort of thoughtful way, and
3 show this is the data. We didn't do that ten years ago.
4 DR. BROOKS: Well, I think there is
5 another issue to deal with, which is your ELL population
6 has doubled in the last four years. And so the arrow is
7 clearly pointing in the direction of having more and more
8 kids in the system, is going to need to be able to
9 respond to the academic and social-emotional needs of
10 those kids.
11 And so if you have a program that you're
12 putting forth you need to be able to firmly stand behind
13 that. You have the research base, and you can talk about
14 that. I think the idea of inviting, of being proactive
15 and preemptive, and inviting people in as you're thinking
16 about the plans makes sense. And this is one of those,
17 lots of good ideas don't have to be sold. People just
18 accept them because they're good ideas. Some good ideas
19 have to be sold, and this is probably one of those good
20 ideas that has to be sold. And so you'll need to bring
21 people in to sell them on why this is a good idea.
22 I think that the logistical issues need to
23 be resolved before you bring people in to hear about the
