Transformation Meeting Transcript for April 28, 2011

1 DR. MAXEY: I think a lot of this hinges
2 on what we're doing with the IAPs next year. If it
3 really becomes a matter of tweaking what's already there,
4 they don't need an extra period, and we can be using them
5 to support a catapult or -- but that's a Mort decision in
6 some ways. Brenda Clark -- we've got so many cooks in
7 this I'm not certain who to go to anymore, in terms of
8 who's running this IAP show, and Brenda Clark's been
9 wonderful, I'm not criticizing in any way here. But we
10 have to decide what the future of IAPs is. That eats up
11 a lot of our math and English teachers' time.
12 DR. BROOKS: So can I just jump in, we've
13 only got about five minutes before we have to move on to
14 our next meeting. So a couple of quick things. When we
15 met the last time, Jasmine, you talked about the
16 possibility of trying to gather up additional students
17 who may have an interest in working with kids. And then
18 we talked about the possibility, I think, of rather than
19 keeping the math center open just for students who
20 volunteer to come, identifying a group of the lowest
21 performing kids and requiring them to go for help.
22 Have we done anything along those lines
23 since the last time we met, and is that still an idea
