• <strong>When</strong> to evaluate (laboratory tests):<br />
– Cannot explain jaundice/high TSB by history, physical<br />
exam<br />
– TSB approaching exchange level or not responding to<br />
photo<strong>the</strong>rapy<br />
– <strong>Jaundice</strong> at or beyond 3 weeks of age or infant is ill<br />
(total, direct)<br />
– Elevated direct (conjugated) bilirubin level<br />
• At or Above 1 with TSB ≤5mg/dL<br />
• At or Above 15-20% of total TSB when TSB is >5mg/dL<br />
• Dark urine, light colored stools<br />
