These designated persons are responsible for:<br />
• receiving all notifications of child abuse;<br />
• taking decisions relating to the holding of child protection conferences;<br />
• promoting interagency cooperation on child protection <strong>and</strong> welfare;<br />
• promoting interprofessional <strong>and</strong> interprogramme cooperation on child<br />
protection <strong>and</strong> welfare;<br />
• overseeing staff training programmes;<br />
• negotiating service agreements with non-statutory service providers.<br />
HSE Designated Officers<br />
If you are employed by the HSE in the following list of grades/functions, you<br />
are a designated officer with explicit responsibilities in responding to child<br />
protection <strong>and</strong> welfare under the <strong>Protection</strong> for Persons Reporting <strong>Child</strong><br />
Abuse Act 1998. If you receive a report from an external service, it is your<br />
responsibility to pass this on to the HSE <strong>Child</strong>ren <strong>and</strong> Family <strong>Service</strong>s.<br />
