Renapro<br />

Renapro is a powdered high protein concentrate that has a low phosphate and low<br />

potassium content. Renapro is a Food for Special Medical Purposes.<br />

Presentation<br />

Renapro has a powdered milk-like taste.<br />

Renapro is available in 30 x 20g sachets per box (600g).<br />

Recommended Intake<br />

Renapro must always be used under medical supervision. Renapro must only be used<br />

according to medical instructions taking into account the nutritional condition and nutritional<br />

requirements of the patient.<br />

Haemodialysis patients: 20g (1 sachet)<br />

Peritoneal dialysis patients: 20-40g (1-2 sachets)<br />

Indications<br />

Renapro is indicated for the dietary management of dialysis patients with catabolism,<br />

cachexia, hyperphosphataemia where there is a need for increased protein intake.<br />

Contraindications<br />

Renapro is not a complete food and is not suitable for use as a sole source of nutrition.<br />

Renapro should not be used with children under 1 year of age.<br />

Persons who are allergic to cow’s milk or who have absorption problems should not<br />

consume Renapro.<br />

Renapro is not for parenteral use.<br />

Storage<br />

Store Renapro in a dry place, not above room temperature.<br />

Premixed solutions of Renapro should be stored in a refrigerator and used within 24 hours.<br />

Whey protein of New Zealand origin (with emulsifier soya lecithin), flavour, artificial<br />

sweeteners, sodium cyclamate (E952), sodium saccharinate (E954), separating agent, silicon<br />

Directions for use<br />

Only use Renapro in foods and drinks allowed by your dietitian. Count all fluids in your daily<br />

allowance. Renapro dissolves easily in either cold or warm liquid. Renapro is suitable for<br />

enriching the protein content of liquid and tube feed diets.<br />

Renapro can be mixed in 60 ml of water.<br />

Pour 60ml of water into a jug, large glass or mug.<br />

Add a 20g sachet of Renapro.<br />

Frequently Asked Questions<br />

Is Renapro a versatile supplement?<br />

Yes Renapro can be added to food and drinks - simply sprinkle directly on food and stir<br />

thoroughly or mix with water until smooth then add some flavouring according to your<br />

preference e.g. Crusha, Nesquik, fruit cordial.<br />

Can Renapro be incorporated into family meals?<br />

Yes it can. Simply add a full sachet to the final meal portion in the pot / dish and mix<br />

thoroughly.<br />

If a full sachet is not used in one meal / drink can the remainder of the<br />

sachet still be reused?<br />

Yes provided the sachet is kept air tight, stored hygienically and used within the same day.<br />

How long can fortified drinks / foods be stored in the fridge?<br />

Fortified Renapro drinks / liquids can be kept refrigerated for up to 24 hours.<br />

How long can fortified ice-cubes or ice-lollies be kept in the freezer?<br />

6 Renapro


Quick and Easy Options<br />

In Food<br />

Renapro can be added directly into food. Simply sprinkle a full Renapro sachet into food and<br />

stir thoroughly. For example: soups, casseroles, pasta sauces, dhals, curries, stews and mince<br />

meat, scrambled eggs (just before serving as Renapro thickens the eggs), yoghurts and<br />

fromage frais, breakfast cereals, custards, rice puddings.<br />

Another alternative is to make Renapro into a paste before adding to food. Simply add 1-2<br />

tablespoons of warm water (not boiling) to a full sachet of Renapro and mix with a fork until<br />

smooth. For example: mashed potato, porridge, etc.<br />

In Drinks<br />

Renapro can also be used to fortify 1/3 pint of milk and used in teas and coffees. Fortified<br />

milk can be kept refrigerated for up to 24 hours.<br />

Other Suggestions<br />

30 ml option<br />

Mix a full sachet of Renapro in a bowl with 30ml (2 tablespoons) of warm water (not<br />

boiling). Flavour to taste by adding 2.5ml ( 1 /2 teaspoon) of Crusha, or fruit cordial.<br />

Nesquik option<br />

Mix a full sachet of Renapro in a bowl with 30ml (2 tablespoons) of room temperature milk<br />

until smooth. Flavour with 1 teaspoon of Nesquik powder.<br />

Yakult option<br />

Mix a full sachet of Renapro in a bowl with 1 bottle (65ml) of Yakult (fermented skimmed<br />

milk drink) for 2 - 3 minutes until smooth.<br />

Ice-lolly / ice-cube option<br />

Mix a full sachet of Renapro in a bowl with 30ml (2 tablespoons) of warm water (not<br />

boiling) until smooth. To flavour add 10ml (2 teaspoons) of fruit cordial or Robinsons<br />

concentrate. Pour into ice-lolly makers or ice-cube trays/ ice-bags and freeze.<br />

Mix a full sachet of Renapro in a bowl with 30 ml (2 tablespoons) of warm water (not<br />

boiling) to a smooth paste. Add 10ml (2 teaspoons) of honey to flavour.<br />

Syrup option<br />

Mix a full sachet of Renapro in a bowl with 30ml (2 tablespoons) of warm water (not<br />

boiling) until a smooth paste. Add 10ml (2 teaspoons) of syrup to flavour.<br />

Jelly<br />

Method<br />

Ingredients<br />

/4 packet of flavoured jelly<br />

100ml boiling water<br />

100ml cold water (optional)<br />

1 sachet (20g) Renapro<br />

Place the jelly cubes in a bowl and add 100ml of boiling water.<br />

Alternatively place jelly cubes into a microwavable jug, add 100 ml water<br />

and heat for approximately 1 minute (based on a 750 watt microwave oven).<br />

Stir until completely dissolved. Allow to cool naturally or pour in 100ml<br />

of cold water (optional).<br />

When cool stir in full sachet of Renapro until smooth.<br />

Pour into a bowl and refrigerate to set.<br />

1-2 servings.


Biscuits<br />

Method<br />

Preheat oven at 190 o C /375 o F/Gas mark 5.<br />

Mix Renapro with flour.<br />

Ingredients<br />

Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.<br />

100g / 4oz butter<br />

100g / 2oz plain sieved flour.<br />

50g / 2oz caster sugar<br />

1 sachet (20g) Renapro<br />

Add the Renapro /flour mix to the butter/sugar mix and knead lightly until smooth.<br />

Roll out to about 1/4 inch thick (5-10 mm), cut into rounds with a fluted cutter.<br />

Place on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper.<br />

Place in the pre-heated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes. Makes 8 biscuits.<br />

Scones<br />

Method<br />

Ingredients<br />

225g / 8oz self raising flour<br />

50g / 2oz sultanas<br />

1 sachet (20g) Renapro<br />

50g / 2oz butter<br />

50g / 2oz caster sugar<br />

1 egg<br />

Zest of 1 large orange<br />

Pinch of salt<br />

Sufficient milk to make<br />

up 150ml with the egg<br />

Preheat oven at 220oC/425oF/Gas mark 7. Lightly grease a baking tray.<br />

Mix flour and salt into a bowl. Then rub in the margarine and stir in the sugar, Renapro,<br />

fruit and zest.<br />

Add milk and egg mixture reserving a little for brushing over the tops of the scones.<br />

Knead very lightly on a floured surface and roll out to 1 cm thickness. Cut into 6.5 cm<br />

rounds. Re-roll the trimmings and cut more scones.<br />

Brush the tops with the egg and milk mixture and bake for approximately 10 minutes.<br />

Freeze any left over scones – only keep fresh for one day. Makes 8 scones.<br />

Tangy Lemon Drizzle Cake<br />

Method<br />

Ingredients<br />

225g / 7.9oz butter or margarine<br />

225g / 7.9oz caster sugar<br />

185g / 6.5oz self raising flour<br />

2 sachets (2 x 20g) Renapro<br />

4 beaten eggs<br />

Rind and juice of 2 lemons<br />

For the drizzle<br />

175g / 6oz caster sugar<br />

75ml water<br />

Juice of 3 lemons<br />

Pre-heat oven at 180oC/350oF/Gas mark 4.<br />

In a bowl cream together the butter and lemon rind. Beat in the sugar and eggs then fold in<br />

the flour and Renapro. Quickly add the juice of two lemons and continue to mix until<br />

smooth.<br />

Spoon the mixture between 12 muffin cases, place in the pre-heated oven and bake for 30-<br />

40 minutes or until lightly browned on top.<br />

Make the syrup by adding the ingredients to a pan warming gently and bringing to the boil<br />

and allowing to bubble for a minute.<br />

Serve warm with the syrup drizzled over the top. Alternatively allow the cakes to cool slightly<br />

then pour the syrup over the cakes allowing them to soak in for 30 minutes & serve as a<br />

between meal snack. Makes 12 muffin size cakes..<br />

Method<br />

Preheat oven at 180oC/350oF/Gas mark 4.<br />

Mix Renapro with flour.<br />

Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.<br />

Rub the butter into the flour/ Renapro mix to form fine crumbs.<br />

Stir in the sugar and oat flakes.<br />

Spread over the tinned mixed fruit.<br />

Press down the crumble mix and bake in the pre-heated oven for 35-40 minutes.<br />

3 servings.<br />

Ingredients<br />

75g / 3oz oat flakes<br />

75g / 3oz plain flour<br />

Tiramisu<br />

Method<br />

Ingredients<br />

397g / 14oz condensed milk (can)<br />

500g / 17.6oz mascarpone cheese<br />

150g / 5.29oz sponge finger biscuits<br />

Approx 100ml cold strong coffee<br />

1 sachet (20g) Renapro<br />

Combine the condensed milk and mascarpone cheese and mix well.<br />

Stir in 1 sachet of Renapro powder.<br />

Dip the sponge fingers in the coffee<br />

(don’t soak the biscuits as they will disintegrate).<br />

Place a layer of the dipped biscuits at the bottom of a serving dish.<br />

Cover with a layer of the cheese mixture followed by a further layer of dipped biscuits.<br />

Finish with a final layer of cheese mixture and dust with cocoa power. 8 servings.<br />

Meatballs<br />

Ingredients<br />

450g / 18.87oz lean minced beef / lamb<br />

1 sachet (20g) Renapro<br />

1 medium egg<br />

1 medium onion finely chopped<br />

1 clove of crushed garlic<br />

3 tablespoons of breadcrumbs<br />

3 tablespoons of warm water<br />

Pepper to taste<br />

Method<br />

Place meat, crushed garlic and breadcrumbs into a bowl.<br />

Dissolve Renapro in 3 tablespoons of warm water and mix in with the egg.<br />

Pour liquid over meat and mix together. Season well.<br />

Roll into small balls. Put the meat balls onto a lined tray with cling film and place in the<br />

fridge until firm (30 minutes) while making the sauce.<br />

Chop the garlic and onion then place into a bowl. Blend using a hand blender until an<br />

onion-garlic pulp. Heat oil and butter in a frying pan and fry the mixture gently for 10<br />

minutes. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.<br />

Place the tomatoes, tomato puree, herbs and sugar into a bowl and use a hand blender<br />

to make into a smooth sauce. Add this sauce to the onion-garlic mixture and simmer for<br />

10 minutes. Add milk gradually while stirring, bring liquid back to the boil.<br />

Once sauce is boiling add the required number of meatballs to the sauce. Cook for 20<br />

minutes – do not stir. Serve with pasta or a bed of rice.<br />

The meat balls will freeze easily or keep chilled and uncooked for a day, and then cook as<br />

required. It’s not necessary to liquidise the sauce if a blender is not available.<br />

Makes 20-25 meat balls. 4 servings.<br />

Shepherds Pie<br />

Method<br />

Pre-heat oven at 200°C/400°F/Gas mark 6.<br />

Ingredients<br />

450g / 15.9oz minced beef/lamb<br />

1 tablespoon oil<br />

3-4 drops worcestershire sauce<br />

1 chopped onion<br />

300 ml boiling water<br />

1 beef stock cube<br />

700g / 24.7oz potatoes<br />

25g grated cheese<br />

Knob of butter<br />

1 sachet (20g) Renapro<br />

Fry the chopped onion in the oil. Add the meat and brown. Add boiling water to the stock<br />

cube and add to the meat mixture. Add a few drops of worcestershire sauce and simmer for<br />

15-20 minutes until the juices are reduced.<br />

Boil the potatoes and mash with the butter. Stir in the Renapro.<br />

Transfer the meat mixture to a serving dish and cover with the potato mixture. Sprinkle with<br />

grated cheese, place in preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. 4 servings.<br />

Lentil Dahl<br />

Ingredients<br />

1 sachet (20g) Renapro<br />

1 inch piece chopped fresh ginger<br />

225g / 7.9oz dried red lentils<br />

1 small chopped red chilli<br />

2 medium onions<br />

1 medium carrot, grated<br />

6 cloves garlic, sliced<br />

2 teaspoons cumin seeds<br />

Method<br />

1 teaspoon turmeric<br />

6 cloves<br />

150 ml coconut milk<br />

300 ml water<br />

1 teaspoon sugar<br />

Pinch pepper<br />

200 ml double cream<br />

Chopped fresh coriander<br />

Use a heavy based pan to slowly fry the onions in butter until they are starting to brown (15<br />

minutes).<br />

Add the garlic, fresh ginger (not dried), carrot, chilli, cumin seeds and cloves, cooking gently<br />

for 3 minutes.<br />

Mix the sachet of Renapro with the coconut milk until dissolved.<br />

Add the lentils, water, turmeric, and coconut milk/Renapro mixture.<br />

Place a lid on the pan and allow it to cook very gently for 25 – 30 minutes, or until the<br />

lentils are tender. Do not allow it to boil.<br />

Stir through the double cream. Add the juice and zest of the lime.<br />

Season with pepper and garnish with the chopped coriander. Serve with warm chapattis and<br />

a fresh green salad. 4 servings.<br />

Protein Packed Spanish Omelette<br />

Method<br />

Fry the sliced onion and potato with 2 tablespoons of oil on a gentle heat for 20 minutes<br />

and season with pepper. (To reduce potassium either par-boil the potatoes first or buy tinned<br />

potatoes).<br />

Whisk the eggs and season. Placed cooked onion and potato in bowl with egg, add a sachet<br />

of Renapro and mix together.<br />

Add 1 tablespoon of oil to frying pan on a medium heat. Pour the mixture back into the<br />

frying pan and heat on a low setting for 20 minutes remembering to turn halfway (or cook<br />

the top under a medium grill till set). Once no liquid egg is evident on both sides the<br />

omelette is ready to serve.<br />

Serve with mashed potato or a small serving of salad. If your appetite is poor consider adding<br />

butter to the mash or mayonnaise to the salad to increase calories. 4 servings.<br />

Small tin of tuna in oil (olive or sunflower)<br />

Mixed herbs to taste<br />

Cook the pasta as preferred, drain and place into a bowl.<br />

Add 1 /2 tablespoon of olive oil and mix. Add mixed herbs and mix.<br />

Add peas and other vegetables as desired and allow to cool.<br />

Drain tuna and empty into a second bowl. Add Renapro to tuna, stir whilst adding.<br />

Add the tuna/Renapro to the pasta mix. 1 serving.<br />

Recommended Intake<br />

Renamil must always be used under medical supervision. Renamil must only be used<br />

according to medical instructions taking into account the nutritional condition and nutritional<br />

requirements of the patient.<br />

To supplement the diet as a drink or food, to prevent and treat conditions of energy<br />

deficiency:<br />

100-200g (1 - 2 sachets) per day<br />

As a complete diet in the form of a drink or tube-feed, according to requirements:<br />

Average of 500 g (5 sachets) per day<br />

Indications<br />

Drinks<br />

Renamil must be fully dissolved when added to liquids such as liquid diet preparations. The<br />

amount of water depends on preferred consistency and water intake restriction. Renamil can<br />

be used in the same way as milk powder. When dissolved, it can be used as drinking milk for<br />

enriching meals and as a milk-substitute within the framework of daily nourishment. Fruit<br />

syrup, vanilla powder or cinnamon may be added to vary the taste. When using more than<br />

one sachet per day or feeding as a complete food, Renamil should be spread over several<br />

mealtimes.<br />

Tube-feeding preparations<br />

Stir the powder into boiled water which has been allowed to stand for 5 minutes and then<br />

stir again to remove any lumps. Select powder and water quantities according to energy<br />

requirements and the required energy-density of the feeding solution (please refer to the<br />

energy density table). Gradually increase the dosage, energy density and total amount to the<br />

required levels.<br />

Renamil Usage Tips<br />

Renamil is a milk substitute so it can be used the same way you would use milk,<br />

for example:<br />

1 As a cold drink – either as it is or flavoured, e.g. with milk shake syrup / powder such<br />

as Crusha or Nesquik, vanilla or peppermint essence; sweetened with honey.<br />

2 As a hot drink – either as it is or flavoured e.g. with honey, cinnamon or nutmeg.<br />

3 As a milk substitute in hot drinks such as teas or coffees. You could also try it in<br />

Horlicks, hot chocolate or Ovaltine.<br />

4 On cereals.<br />

5 For cooking and baking – in any recipes which use milk, e.g. egg dishes (omelettes,<br />

pancakes, Yorkshire puddings, scrambled eggs and quiche), porridge, sauces, stews,<br />

soups, pies, custard, milk pudding, packet desserts, bread, biscuits and cakes.<br />

Renamil can also be used as a powder. Simply sprinkle or stir into cooked foods and hot<br />

drinks to enrich them, e.g. porridge, pies, desserts, mashed potatoes, soups, sauces, stews,<br />

Renergy is a powdered high protein and high energy concentrate that has a low<br />

phosphate and low potassium content. Renergy is a Food for Special Medical<br />

Purposes.<br />

Presentation<br />

Renergy has a powdered vanilla flavour taste.<br />

Renergy is available in 10 x 100 g sachets per box (1000 g).<br />

Recommended Intake<br />

Renergy must always be used under medical supervision. Renergy must only be used<br />

according to medical instructions taking into account the nutritional condition and nutritional<br />

requirements of the patient.<br />

To supplement the diet as a drink or food, to prevent and treat conditions of protein<br />

and energy deficiency:<br />

100-200 g (1-2 sachets) per day<br />

As a complete diet in the form of a drink or tube-feed, according to requirements:<br />

Average of 500 g (5 sachets) per day<br />

Indications<br />

Renergy is indicated for the dietetic treatment of increased protein and energy need of<br />

dialysis patients.<br />

Contraindications<br />

Renergy is only a complete food when 5 sachets (500 g) are used daily.<br />

Renergy should not be used with children under 1 year of age.<br />

Persons who are allergic to cow’s milk or who have absorption problems should not<br />

consume Renergy.<br />

Renergy is not suitable for diabetics.<br />

Renergy is not for parenteral use.<br />

In exclusive nutrition with Renergy over several days the electrolyte status must be<br />

monitored.<br />

Storage<br />

Store Renergy in a dry place, not above room temperature.<br />

Open Renergy sachets should be used immediately.<br />

Premixed solutions of Renergy should be stored in a refrigerator and used within 72 hours.<br />

Ingredients (per 100 g)<br />

Maltodextrine, vegetable oil, whey protein, flavour, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate,<br />

vitamins (vitamin C, vitamin E, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B1, vitamin B2,<br />

folic acid, biotine, vitamin K1, vitamin B12), iron (II), gluconate, sodium selenite, zinc oxide,<br />

copper gluconate, manganese sulphate, sodium fluoride, sodium molybdate, potassium<br />

iodide.<br />

Directions for use<br />

Only use Renergy in foods and drinks allowed by your Dietitian. Count all fluids in your daily<br />

allowance. Renergy dissolves easily in either cold or warm liquid. The amount of water<br />

depends on the preferred consistency and water intake restriction.<br />

Renergy can be mixed into 150-250ml of water.<br />

Poor a little water into a jug, large glass or mug.<br />

Add a 100 g sachet of Renergy.<br />

Mix into a smooth cream with a whisk or fork.<br />

Add the remaining volume of water.<br />

Or alternatively you may mix Renergy in a shaker.<br />

Drinks<br />

Renergy must be fully dissolved when added to liquids such as liquid diet preparations.<br />

Renergy has a vanilla flavour. Fruit syrup, vanilla powder or cinnamon may be added to vary<br />

the taste. When using more than one sachet per day or feeding as a complete food, Renergy<br />

should be spread over several mealtimes.<br />

Tube-feeding preparations<br />

Stir the powder into boiled water which has been allowed to stand for 5 minutes and then<br />

stir again to remove any lumps. Select powder and water quantities according to energy<br />

requirements and the required energy-density of the feeding solution (please refer to the<br />

energy density table). Gradually increase the dosage, energy density and total amount to the<br />
