gravity escapement single-train movement stamped E. Howard & Co. Boston, jeweled gravity arm arbors, lifting arms and locking faces,<br />

maintaining power and stainless steel replica single-jar mercury pendulum, regulating assembly and suspension block, powered by a single side-hung<br />

lead weight all mounted on a cast iron backboard bracket in an oak case with removable hood and sides, ht. 59 1/2 in.<br />

Note: With a long history in Waltham, this clock is likely one used in the Howard factory from new until early in the 20th century. Inside the great<br />

wheel under the maintaining ratchet are the following inscriptions by E. Howard Company escapement finisher Mr. L. P. Emerson: L.P.E. 1874<br />

Cleaned 1884 L.P.E. Put up in Supt. Office 1892 L.P.E. Cleaned 1900 new wire 1902.<br />
