70th AIOC Proceedings, Cochin 2012
Unilateral inferior oblique recession has been recommended in patients with
strictly unilateral muscle overaction. Singh et al have shown that all patients
with asymmetry of 3 grades and some patients with asymmetry of 2 grades
can be safely treated by unilateral surgery. 8
In conclusion this small series shows that inferior oblique muscle recessions
and myectomies are almost equally effective in the vast majority of patients
with primary inferior oblique overaction. Recessions however give more
controlled effect in unilateral cases.
