to accompany him. The good abbot Aldebran also thought much <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Alcyone</strong>, but was quite willing to let him go upon an expedition as<br />

For many days they travelled, far up into the mountains, in the<br />

leisurely fashion <strong>of</strong> those days, making halts <strong>of</strong> weeks in duration at<br />

various monasteries on the way, Aryasanga always preaching to the<br />

monks and the people, and inspiring them with his own fiery zeal<br />

and enthusiasm. Many a time on such occasions he appointed<br />

<strong>Alcyone</strong> to speak to the people, and he always aquitted himself well.<br />
