Bavaria 1503<br />

Erato was born in the year 1503, at the city <strong>of</strong> Ratisbon in Bavaria. His father was an etcher and engraver, a pupil <strong>of</strong> Albert Durer--also a<br />

painter and an architect. The boy watched his father at work and rapidly acquired artistic knowledge and skill, and by the age <strong>of</strong> fifteen was<br />

able to do work indistinguishable from hiss father's. The religious views <strong>of</strong> the family were those <strong>of</strong> the Quietists. The life, however, was but<br />

a short one, as at the age <strong>of</strong> nineteen Erato was carried <strong>of</strong>f by one <strong>of</strong> the epidemics which so frequently raged in mideaval Europe.<br />
