Legion of Honor
By the time you read this, the
International Association Legions of
Honor annual convention will be history.
To all who attended, I hope you
enjoyed yourselves and came away with
fond memories and just maybe a new
friendship or two. I’ll be able to offer
more details in the next issue of the
magazine.
This month, the Legion of Honor is
teaming up with the Transportation Club
to participate in the Paper Crusade. This
annual event is held specifically to raise
awareness of the great work the Shiners
Hospitals do for the kids. All money collected
goes directly to Shriners Hospitals
or to Murat Transportation Fund.
Motorcycle Fun
Club
Tom Austin
The warm weather is finally here
and we have our bikes out and are starting
to ride. Our meetings are showing
life again with the anticipation of riding
as a group to different events.
We have scheduled several rides
already and hope to see you out there
with us. We have the Grand Masters’
ride, lunch/dinner rides, and car and
motorcycle show events.
We welcome new members to
join our Club – growing with enthusiasm,
good fellowship and fun activities
planned every month. All you need is
a licensed street worthy motorcycle and
you are ready to go! We meet the third
Thursday of each month at 8 p.m. in the
Mecca Room.
We need you to come to our
meetings so we can better plan events
and get organized to make this a fun
club once again. Please feel free to stop
by and visit to learn more about our
Club. Contact Tom Austin, our Club
president, at 752-0519 if you have any
questions. We look forward to seeing
you on the road.
Discussed at our April Stated Meeting
was the possibility of touring a military
museum in Anderson, IN. From what
I’ve been told, this particular museum
has an extensive collection of military
vehicles, many of which have been utilized
in the making of several movies.
At this point, a tentative September date
has been set. I’ll share more details
when they become available.
Also, again this year, the Legion of
Honor is planning a bus trip to Arlington
National Cemetery over Veterans Day
weekend, in November, for the wreath
laying ceremony at the tomb of the
Unknown Soldier. We are considering
adding another day to the trip so as to
Chanters
Bob Watson
give us more time to see the sights.
There is so much to do and see in our
nation’s capitol. As we did last year, if
we don’t have enough Legion of Honor
members to fill the bus, we will then
open it up to any Shriner. I’ll have more
information on this at a later date.
Don’t forget the Legion of Honor is
dark in July and August, but the Color
Guard will be available to present colors
at your Club or Unit’s function. Contact
our Color Guard captain, John Cheeley,
to make arrangements. Remember, “It is
an honor to belong to the Legion of
Honor.”
