The synthesis of biaryl compounds via the reaction of aryl halides with arylboronic acids, commonly referred to<br />

as Suzuki coupling, is an important area of growth in both synthetic and combinatorial methodologies. Of the<br />

wide variety of cross-coupling reactions, Suzuki coupling is the most general and widely used. Arylboronic acids<br />

are favored due to their stability, low toxicity, and limited side reactions in the coupling experiment.<br />

TECHNICAL NOTE:<br />

Most arylboronic acids readily undergo dehydration reactions to give a cyclic anhydride (trimer). Our arylboronic acids may<br />

contain varying amounts of this cyclic anhydride. Fortunately, since the acid and the anhydride work equally well in Suzuki<br />

coupling reactions, the two forms are generally regarded as equivalent.<br />
