How will these proposals affect car drivers? The plans are to make Greater Manchester’s bus network better without causing too many problems for people who drive cars and lorries. For people who drive cars there will be: • better traffic signals to make sure that these help cars to keep moving at busy times of the day (rush hour) • bus lanes ending before junctions so that it will be easier for people who drive. This will help people who drive pass through road junctions and traffic lights quickly. There will also be new road signs installed to help motorists find the best way to their destination. Page 8

In 2009, TfGM did some work to find out what people thought and their ideas about some of these plans. We used some of the things people told us to help make these plans. Since then – as well as working with local councils and bus operators – TfGM has talked to residents, businesses, universities and hospitals along the bus routes to find out more about what the plans could help to make better. TfGM now has the money we need to do the work. Although some work along these routes can already be seen – such as the guided busway junctions at Sale Lane in Tyldesley, and Newearth Road in Ellenbrook, much more work will be taking place over the next three years.
