Algeria
BG Group has a 36.75% interest in, and is
operator of, the Hassi Ba Hamou (HBH)
block. BG Group was successful in the first
Algerian licence round held under the new
hydrocarbon law, securing the Guern el
Guessa (GEG) permit north-west of HBH.

BG Group entered Algeria through an agreement with Gulf Keystone
in 2006 to acquire a 36.75% interest in the HBH permit. The permit,
in central Algeria, consists of four blocks (317b, 347b, 348 and 349b),
covers approximately 12 833 square kilometres and contains the
HBH gas discovery. Under the first phase drilling programme,
three appraisal and three exploration wells were drilled. The RM-1
exploration well was a new gas discovery, in addition to the existing
HBH discovery appraised by three appraisal wells. The first exploration
phase on the HBH Perimeter was completed and BG Group and
partners entered the two-year second exploration period and
relinquished 30% of the original block area. Since entering this
second phase, the RM-1 discovery has been appraised and BG Group
is now looking to commercialise both HBH and RM-1 discoveries with
evacuation through the new proposed GR5 pipeline.
BG Group holds 49%, and is operator of, the GEG permit which
contains two blocks (316a and 317a). Sonatrach holds a 51% interest.
The contract for the GEG permit became effective in May 2009 and
the first exploration phase will run for three years. The award of this
new permit represented a significant step for the Group in building
a material business in Algeria.

licensing round.

BG Group was awarded a 100% interest in, and operatorship
of, Area 123 (Blocks 1 and 2), covering 4 900 square kilometres in
Libya’s onshore Sirt Basin. 3D seismic operations were completed
for both areas in 2007 and two exploration wells were drilled in
2008, both of which were dry. BG Group has served a notice to
relinquish both areas.
BG Group was awarded a 50% non-operated interest in Area 171,
containing Blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4, covering 11 300 square kilometres
onshore in the frontier Kufra Basin. Initial 2D seismic operations were
completed in 2007. A well was drilled in late 2008 which was dry.
