The symbol rate is measured in MSymbols/s and is equal to the number<br />
of symbols that are received per second.<br />
A transponder is a satellite transmitter which transmits TV and radio<br />
signals. A satellite has several transponders.<br />
Analogue transponders transmit only one TV channel and possibly<br />
several radio channels on their transmit frequencies.<br />
Digital transponders simultaneously transmit several TV and several<br />
radio channels on their transmit frequencies. When a channel provider<br />
broadcasts several TV channels via a digital transponder, this is referred<br />
to as the channel package of the channel provider. The terms<br />
"digital transponder" and "channel package," therefore have the same<br />
meaning.<br />
The video bit rate describes the quantity of data of the digitised video<br />
signal that is transmitted per second.<br />
The viterbirate (code rate, error rate) characterises the type of error<br />
protection used by the channel provider. The <strong>DVB</strong> standard stipulates<br />
the following values: 1/2 -2/ 3 - 3/4 - 4/5 - 5/6 6/7 - 7/8.
