Jeanette knew Karyn was interested in a modeling career but did not know<br />
that Karyn was thinking about moving out <strong>of</strong> town. (Vol. LVIX, R. 1707) A month<br />
prior to Karyn’s murder, Jeanette and Karyn had an argument about putting<br />
Kolten in preschool three days a week but they apologized to each other later the<br />
same day. (Vol. LVIX, R. 1707-12; Vol. LX, R. 1887)<br />
Brian Maxey dated Karyn Slover after meeting her at the Decatur Health<br />
Club. They lived together for three months prior to breaking up. (Vol. LVIII, R.<br />
1324-28) During this time, Maxey saw Karyn was upset and in tears every time<br />
she came home from picking Kolten up from the Slovers’. (Vol. LVIII, R. 1329)<br />
Defense Evidence<br />
Charles Dunlap interviewed Brian Maxey on September 29, 1996. Maxey<br />
did not make any comment to Dunlap concerning any problems that Karyn Slover<br />
was having with her mother-in-law. (Vol. LXXI, R. 73-74)<br />
Ed Culp was a Detective with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office. (Vol. LXX,<br />
R. 162-63) On October 2, 1996, Culp spoke with Brian Maxey who did not say<br />
anything about Karyn Slover having complaints about Jeannette Slover. (Vol.<br />
LXX, R. 165)<br />
Autopsy – October 1, 1996<br />
State’s Case-in-Chief<br />
Doctor John Murphy, a pathologist since 1971, performed the autopsy on<br />
Karyn Slover on September 30 and October 1, 1996. (Vol. LV, R. 675-81) Dr.<br />
Murphy identified a total <strong>of</strong> seven gunshot wounds to the head as the cause <strong>of</strong><br />
death – six <strong>of</strong> them on the left side <strong>of</strong> the head and one to the back <strong>of</strong> the head.<br />
All <strong>of</strong> the gunshots were ante mortem and from inches away. (Vol. LV, R. 688-93;<br />
