Making a difference Having been successfully elected, the two new members said they would like to make a difference by contributing to the continued success of NUSS. “I would like to build on the success we had with the NUSS Karaoke competition and various mini events. I also plan to organise more innovative culture related events for this coming year with my team. In particular, I will be spending some effort in organising the production of an album comprising of Singaporecomposed materials performed by talents from NUSS. The society has pledged to raise $1 million to be met by 31 December 2016 providing financial assistance to disadvantaged singaporeans enrolled for studies at uTown. The society is pleased to announce that Dr Della lee and Mr lee seng Gee, Chairman of the lee Foundation, have contributed a sum of $1 million towards the Nuss endowment Fund for uTown student Advancement. As a gesture of the society’s deep appreciation, the Guild Hall at Kent Ridge Guild House will be renamed the Della & seng Gee Guild Hall. The unveiling will take place on 13 july 2011.
New MANAgeMeNt CoMMIttee MeMber Mr JeFFrey KHoo PoH tIoNg With his passion in music and culture, members can look forward to an exciting year ahead with arts and entertainment events. FOR Mr jeffrey Khoo poh Tiong, serving Nuss is a calling. Mr Khoo works at a private equity firm involved in the agriculture and food industry. As a General Manager, he travels extensively throughout Asia looking for value in companies. “i naturally gravitate towards looking for value in any activity i drive. it is important to make fellow volunteers appreciate the value in their participation, as not all things can be measured in terms of dollars and cents,” says Mr Khoo. Having been an Nuss member for the past 17 years, Mr Khoo said he enjoys the modern facilities and participated in various programmes organised by the previous Management Committee members. “This time round i would want to dedicate my time and effort to give back to the society that i call my second home,” says Mr Khoo. last term, Mr Khoo served on the Karaoke special interest group and also on the intellectual pursuit sub- Committee. With an interest in music and the arts since young, Mr Khoo said this will help add value to the society. indeed, Nuss recently benefitted from his contribution with the 2011 Nuss Karaoke Competition. Moving forward, members can expect an exciting year ahead with culture related events, fundraising and arts activities to be spearheaded by Mr Khoo. “it is important to make fellow volunteers appreciate the value in their participation, as not all things can be measured in terms of dollars and cents.” New MANAgeMeNt CoMMIttee MeMber HIgHlIgHts dr PAul wANg syAN Dr Wang’s fulfilling experience serving in the iConnect Taskforce led him to run for elections to serve Nuss. DR paul Wang syan leads an active and healthy lifestyle. Therefore, it came as no surprise that he aspires to promote healthy living and lifelong learning as a member of the Management Committee. A strategic planning Director for NeC Asia pacific, Dr Wang brings with him more than 20 years of working experience in both the private and public sectors where he has worked in various management positions. Dr Wang, however, is no stranger to Nuss.
