took us 2 and a half hours through stop and start peak hour traffic on the freeway,
not pleasant along with the rain. Then there were the gale force winds on the last 40k
stretch that had the bikes on a 45 degree angle. Felt like we were back on the
Nullabor.
Amazing to come onto the Island to see bike after bike roll in. A wonderful
atmosphere and sight. The whole weekend was a big party, full of thousands upon
thousands of enthusiasts.
We Shared a house with 8 other friends - 9 bikes in the yard and one car. Lots of
Lemonade passed our lips, however that didn’t deter any of us from enjoying the
spirited atmosphere on the island.
Friday I came across friends at the Siberia stand. It was Very fitting that they had
chosen there right next to the Bass Straight, so they could look longingly at their
homeland.
Qualifying round was excellent. We were in the pits
when I was almost run down by Stoner and his marshal,
as they came into the pits after his little topple. (Lucky,
yes ! I have some influential acquaintances.) Bugger,
where is the camera when you need it.... Not turned on
ready. I know now to have camera in hand turned on
when you are in the pits.
Yes…It was a truly wonderful day and a fantastic
atmosphere. Great to see Stoner win, though I do so wish Pedrosa had
tried a little harder to stay upright and the fact
that Lorenzo didn't need to win to get his world
title. Made it look too easy for Stoner. Don't get
me wrong, Stoner is an excellent rider and knows
that track well. I totally admire his skill.
One of the most amusing sights is the Bronx camp
site. They could just about charge admission. Very
apt the inhabitants were enclosed by a cyclone
fence. Some had come
with trailers loaded with
household furniture. One
camp site had a sign
saying “Do not feed the
Bears” and they were
dressed as Bears.
