TAIL-END CHARLIE (TEC)
Tail-end Charlie - arguably equally as important as the Ride Leader.
Tail-end Charlie (TEC) rides behind the slowest rider in the group and is there to help any
rider who has mechanical or medical problems (quite often a flat tyre or no fuel).
Ideally TEC has basic first aid knowledge, a first aid kit, basic tool kit, a mobile phone and the
numbers of bike recovery, police and ambulance.
If a rider is in trouble, sometimes the ride leader is oblivious to this and it’s left to TEC to deal
with the problems.
If a bike breaks down, TEC should try to help the owner repair the fault or phone for someone
to collect the bike and rider.
If no phone service, send a rider or flag down a car to ring from the next town. Likewise, if a
person is injured or unwell, ask them, if conscious, if they would like you to seek medical help
or an ambulance.
When approaching a corner marker TEC can assist the corner marker by flashing his lights or
waving his arm to let him know you have seen him. This allows the corner marker to rejoin
the ride and for TEC to negotiate the corner without the need to slow or stop.
Hello wanderers,
So we are now half way through February and that means not
long till those of us who are going head across to the Queensland AGM, those
who are travelling across either by car or bike are invited to our home on the 16th
of February to discuss the logistics of the trip. We will fry up some sausages and
you can bring a drink if you so wish this will commence at 4pm. As this is my
fourth edition of Sound Rides I would love to hear some feedback from you all as
to how you think its going. Would you like to see any changes , more
information, or maybe less of something please feel free to let me
know. A big thank‐you to all the people who continue to send me
stuff through this makes things easier and I am really grateful for it.
Cheers Carli Rooney
